Rigby is a gorgeous camper... she's compact, stylish and beautifully designed to feel airy and spacious. Her owners have pooled their talents in building and fashion design... and it really shows. Rigby is a little beauty! As a compact vehicle you can zip about like driving a car and with her clever layout means you can comfortably spend time in the van when the weather doesn't behave! The sofa extends to a relaxing day bed and further extends to a comfy bed for two.

Rigby has a fresh, light palette, classy furnishings and lovely touches of artwork and decor. Such a relaxing space, which extends outside too... just pull out the awning, camping table and chairs. And when adventure calls, Rigby is ready to play with optional extras like a kayak and stand-up paddle board.

Note: While Rigby is currently certified self-contained, due to a law change she is NOT suitable for freedom camping after 7 December 2024 and from that date can only camp in paid camping areas (campsites, KiwiCamps, DOC camps etc.). However, please scroll to the top of this page and click the link in the yellow banner to find out more about freedom camping and self-contained vehicles… on reading the facts you might find there’s nothing to fear in hiring this vehicle!

Note: Rigby has a minimum 4 day hire for most of the year and 7 days during the summer. And, while most of our vans are pet-friendly, Rigby is for human travellers only!

About the Campervan

Location: Rigby lives in Torbay on the North Shore (over the harbour bridge) which is approx. 45km (45 mins drive) from Auckland airport and 24km (25 mins drive) from Auckland CBD. If you’re driving your own car, it can be safely parked at the property (off-road) while you’re away.

In The Cab: 3 seats in cab up front (with 3-point seat belts); radio, bluetooth connection or aux cable for the tunes.

Kitchen Area: Spacious countertops for food preparation, a 33L powered compressor chilly bin, gas stove as standard or Cadac gas BBQ as an optional Extra (both supplied with gas bottle) and all the essential utensils and crockery. Rigby has a practical layout to allow cooking inside or outside all within arms reach.

Living/Sleeping Area: Rigby has as L-shaped sofa that slides out and can be widened to a day bed for those afternoon nappers! And creates a cosy double bed (120cm x 190cm). She has insulated floor, walls & ceilings with sound dampening mats all around, in addition to black-out thermal curtains to ensure a good nights sleep. Note: we list bedding and towels as Extras at the booking stage in case guests prefer to bring their own. There is also plenty of storage space under the seats and a bedside table for personal belongings.

Water Facilities: Like all Quirky Campers in NZ, Rigby is certified self-contained. There are removable 25 litre fresh and grey water tanks with a sink and hand-pump tap in the kitchen area.

Electrical/Lighting and Audio Equipment: Rigby has a leisure battery charged when driving as well as by the 120W solar panel. She has LED lights, USB socket and electric fan. Rigby also comes with a camping ground lead (with RCD) to connect to 230v mains power enabling you to power a device.

Type of Heating: Insulated with thermal curtains but no other heater besides cab heater.

Outside: Camping chairs and table, awning (with or without side wall), solar shower pack and stand-up paddle board are all available as Extras.

Conversion Story: We moved over from the UK in 2019 and loved exploring. We decided we wanted a small nimble, reliable campervan that can take us around New Zealand, a friend at work decided to sell a van that was originally planned for a conversion which he never got round to. So it was our perfect opportunity and we bought the Nissan Caravan in late 2020 and converted it ourselves. We wanted to create a spacious, modern sleek camper and with our backgrounds - a builder and a fashion designer - we put our skills to the test! - George & Sophie

Honestly, the best thing we have ever done with the most impressive company in the business. Each camper is totally unique, often super creatively executed & a real home-from-home. Quirky Campers handled every single aspect of our trip with ease and professionalism - we genuinely couldn’t have asked for anything more. If you’re considering hiring one of their amazing campers for either New Zealand or the UK, 100% do it! For reference, we rented Rigby to travel NZ & we really have fallen in love with van life. A truly incredible experience with the Airb&b of campervans. Thank you SO much!
