Madeleine

Location: Madeleine lives in the Sumner area of Christchurch approx. 26km (35 mins drive) from Christchurch airport and about 12km (20 mins drive) from Christchurch CBD. If you’re driving your own car, it can be safely parked on the street in a quiet neighbourhood while you’re away. Madeleine can also be brought to a convenient location for pick-up/drop-off for an an extra charge - see Extras.

In The Cab: 3 seats in cab up front (2 with 3-point seat belts and centre seat with lap belt); radio, bluetooth connection or aux cable for the tunes.

Kitchen Area: Lovely timber countertop and generous sink with electric pump tap and a 22L chest fridge with freezer tray for ice, stored under the bench seat. For cooking, Madeleine has a pull-out unit accessed from the rear which stores the gas stove with 2kg gas bottle and the essential utensils, pots, pans, knives, crockery and cutlery etc.

Dining/Living/Sleeping Area: Madeleine has an internal height of 1.64m – so standing room if you’re on the shorter side! – and there is bench seating immediately behind the cab with a removeable table to maximise the space. Madeleine has a fixed double bed (140cm x 175cm) which is slightly shorter that a standard bed but because it runs lengthways it’s not an issue. She has insulated floor, walls & ceiling with beautiful thick curtains to ensure a good night’s sleep. For extra privacy and security there are tinted windows. Note: we list bedding and towels as Extras at the booking stage in case guests prefer to bring their own. There is also plenty of storage space under the bed accessed from inside and outside.

Water Facilities: Like all Quirky Campers in NZ, Madeleine is certified self-contained. There are removable 25 litre fresh and grey water tanks. The portable toilet is stored under the bed, accessed from inside the van and can be pulled out for use as needed.

Electrical/Lighting and Audio Equipment: Madeleine has a leisure battery charged via the engine when driving, LED lights and an inverter with USB sockets for charging devices. She also comes with a 240v campground cable.

Type of Heating: Insulated and has a diesel heater.

Outside: Madeleine comes with a roof rack and awning as well as picnic rugs and a solar shower pack. Camping chairs, outdoor table, and a bike rack for use with the towbar are available as optional extras.

Conversion Story: After purchasing Madeleine with a “basic” conversion, Cruzar Custom Campers undertook a bespoke renovation in 2021. We’re big fans of Scandi design and this concept works really well in the van. A mix of wood and painted white ply combined with pretty fabrics and sheepskin creates a lovely, homely vibe and is super comfortable. The layout (including the higher roof) enables lounging and sleeping spaces to be available at the same time which means the van is really easy to hang in and the storage is fantastic. We’ve used the van to make adventures accessible – the huge storage at the back holds large filled backpacks and there’s also space for heaps of additional clothes/gear inside too - Jac
