Bluebelle

Location: Bluebelle lives in the Lower Hutt area of Wellington approx. 26km (30 mins drive) from Wellington airport and approx. 17km (20 mins drive) from the city centre. If you’re driving your own car, it can be safely parked in the driveway while you’re away.

In The Cab: 2 seats in cab up front (with 3-point seat belts) meaning there’s access to the main living area; radio/stereo with Bluetooth connections

Kitchen Area: The interior height is 1.88m so most people can stand up comfortably. There is an in-built 2-burner gas cooktop in the beautiful timber counter – which is also extendable. Bluebelle has a large sink with goose neck tap and a 50 litre chest fridge stored under the bed. The kitchen is stocked with 3 pots, 1 pan, a dining set and cutlery for 4, a knife set, scissors, potato peeler, 2 x beer coolers, containers for left overs and snacks, a stove-top kettle, a tray, a chopping board, 2 x mugs, instant coffee, tea and sugar. There’s also a fire extinguisher and first aid kit.

Living / Sleeping Area: Bluebelle has a permanent bed across the back of the van which measures 1.4m x 1.8m but it is possible to stretch out into the window frames making the bed 1.96m long. There’s a lovely deep mattress along with thermal black-out curtains for the ultimate in comfort and privacy. Note: we list bedding and towels as extras at the booking stage in case guests prefer to bring their own. And given Bluebelle has 4 belted seats (and is self-contained for four) you could bring along a tent and have a family or group holiday!

Water Facilities: Like all Quirky Campers in NZ, Bluebelle is certified self-contained… and in this case for 4 people so there’s plenty of fresh water on board. Bluebelle has an inside shower and toilet in the cubicle. Hot water for the shower and sink is created through a gas-powered water heater allowing instantaneous hot water. Bluebelle has 90 litre fresh and 80 litre grey water tanks.

Electrical/Lighting and Audio Equipment: Bluebelle has a solar system which powers the fridge and multiple USB sockets for charging your devices while off-grid. There’s also a 240V hook-up for use at campsites so you can then use the four mains power outlets (2 in the kitchen and 2 under the bed) for any other gadgets. The fridge can also be plugged into a mains power outlet when hooked up to save the leisure battery. Bluebelle also has a TV fitted in the sleeping area (Google TV).

Type of Heating: None aside from vehicle heater. To keep you cool in the warmer months there are two roof vents for creating cross ventilation in the van.

Outside: Bluebelle comes with a table for dining inside or out and has Extras including outdoor camping chairs, a 2-person tent and a double inflatable mattress.

Conversion Story: I purchased Bluebelle in March 2023 fully converted by the previous owner. I have since then added a few features such as the pot plants, the lady birds I painted with my daughter and the fruit basket I have weaved. After green, blue is my favourite colour, because it reminds me of the colour of the sky and the ocean. I also love any names that end with "...bella/e" so the name Bluebelle seemed quite appropriate for this van. We love spending time at the beach and near any body of water so you will find that the van has a beachy blue feel to it. My favourite feature in the van is the steamy hot shower, which also functions extremely well as a changing room to quickly get into your swimsuit without having to close all the curtains for privacy! - Elisa
