Monty is quite the handsome chap! Smooth and suave, we adore the atmosphere of this van—a bit of a private members club/whisky-drinking vibe!
His interior balances deep, brooding blues with timber and lighter touches, creating a cool space to hang out and travel in.
But Monty’s not just a good-looker! As a compact van, he's a breeze to drive and park, yet boasts the much-coveted fixed double bed (eliminating the hassle of assembly!). With ample storage in his spacious cab and a high roof, he's as practical as he is charming.
Everything about Monty is considered. His cleverly designed pull-out table at the foot of the bed serves as both a dining table (just pop down his fold-out stools!) and a nightstand. Storage shelves in the kitchen keep your essentials organised, while the solar panel and inverter keep you powered up wherever you roam.
And the kitchen? It's perfectly set up for indoor-outdoor #vanlife. Slide out the cooker and unwind the awning to enjoy some top-notch Kiwi cooking. Then set up Monty's outdoor table and chairs, and kick back for the afternoon!

About the Campervan

Location: Monty lives in the Sumner area of Christchurch approx. 26km (35 mins drive) from Christchurch airport and about 12km (20 mins drive) from Christchurch CBD. If you’re driving your own car, it can be safely parked on the street in a quiet neighbourhood while you’re away. Monty can also be brought to a convenient location for pick-up/drop-off by arrangement.

In The Cab: 3 seats in cab up front (2 with 3-point seat belts and centre seat with lap belt); radio, bluetooth connection or aux cable for the tunes.

Kitchen Area: Lovely timber countertop and generous sink with electric pump tap and a 65L fridge. For cooking, Monty has a pull-out drawer which stores the gas stove and he has all the essential utensils, pots, pans, knives, crockery and cutlery etc.

Dining/Living/Sleeping Area: Monty has an internal height of 1.64m – so standing room if you’re on the shorter side! For dining there’s a pull-out table and cute little stools configured so you can enjoy the view out of the sliding door. Monty has a fixed double bed (140cm x 180cm) which is slightly shorter that a standard bed but because it runs lengthways it’s not an issue… and there’s a memory foam mattress for a great nights sleep. He has insulated floor, walls & ceiling with beautiful thick curtains to ensure a good night’s sleep. For extra privacy and security there are tinted windows. Note: we list bedding and towels as Extras at the booking stage in case guests prefer to bring their own. There is also plenty of storage space under the bed accessed from inside and outside.

Water Facilities: Like all Quirky Campers in NZ, Monty is certified self-contained. There are removable 25 litre fresh and grey water tanks. Following the newly introduced requirement for a fixed toilet, Monty’s is stored under the bed and slides out for use as needed.

Electrical/Lighting and Audio Equipment: Monty has a leisure battery charged via the engine when driving, LED lights and an inverter with USB sockets for charging devices. He also comes with a 240v campground cable.

Type of Heating: Insulated with a diesel heater.

Outside: Monty comes with an awning as well as a picnic rug and solar shower pack. Camping chairs, outdoor table and bike rack for the tow bar are available as optional extras.

Conversion Story: Monty is my second van and is very similar in terms of quality to Madeleine.  Monty is newly converted (Spring 2023) by professional campervan conversions company, Cruzar Custom Campers. I retained many of the features of Madeleine (loved the fixed bed and the white ply aesthetic) but this time I've gone for an open area underneath the bed to provide a wider variety of storage options (suitcases, large items like foldable kayaks etc.) and have also brought the cooking drawer into the main living space.

I've chosen a rich, cosy colour scheme (dark wood, navy painted cabinetry and navy check curtains) but have kept the walls white to ensure Monty feels light and airy. In addition to the same high quality facilities in Madeleine (USB ports, electric water pump, memory foam mattress and quality bedding), Monty also has solar panels and a large fridge and is a modern van (2019) so is super easy to drive. – Jac

We loved our time in Monty! We spent 10 days on a trip around the South Island and mostly stayed in DOC campsites with a few free campsites and one more expensive campsite thrown in (for the hot showers!). We loved how compact Monty is - he's easy to manoeuvre on the roads and fit into normal size parking spaces. His engine is also small but we managed fine on all roads (and pulled over when a queue developed behind us). The kitchen space was great with a good sized fridge and all amenities included. We found we had to refill the water supply every 2 days which was fine. The bed was comfy but it is short (it was a slight struggle for me at 192cm). The tinted windows were great and the curtains were easy to lower to block out light in the morning. Lots of room in the back for clothing and suitcases, etc. Monty is also short so you can't stand up straight but you cook outside the van anyway so we didn't mind. We didn't use the toilet inside as there are so many public toilets in NZ, including at the free camping spots, so it wasn't a problem. Thanks again!
