If summer were a van, it would be Dakoda. Thanks to her high roof interior and cheerful colour palette, this beach-themed camper is as bright and inviting as a bluebird NZ day. With room for four in two generous sized beds, she’s a great option for a family or two couples (who get on well!)
Just like her pal Ollie, Dakoda has a galley kitchen at the rear and a lounge/bedroom at the front, so you can easily stroll from one end to the other. When it's time to chill, slide open the side door, recline in her comfy seating area, or walk to the back to whip up a snack! Yep, Dakoda has a 2-hob burner, fridge-freezer, and handy pull-out drawers stocked with everything you need. If dining under the sky is your thing, Dakoda’s got a fold-out table and chairs.
Setting up for a good night's sleep is super straightforward in Dakoda. Simply flatten the sofa, add a squab kitchen-side, and you have your bottom double bed! The top bed slides out just as easily, and can be climbed up onto with the help of two little footholds. Just the two of you? Enjoy the luxury of the extra upstairs storage space.
Say yes to summer adventure and book Dakoda now!

Note: Dakoda has been upgraded with a fixed toilet and therefore IS suitable for freedom camping in line with the law change in June 2023 regarding self-containment certification. Please scroll to the top of this page and click the link in the yellow banner to find out more about freedom camping and self-contained vehicles.

Note: Dakoda has a minimum 4 day hire for most of the year and 7 days during the summer.

About the Campervan

Location: Dakoda lives in Ohoka, north of Christchurch approx. 20km (20 mins drive) from both Christchurch airport and the CBD. If you’re driving your own car, it can be safely parked off-road while you’re away.

In The Cab: 3 seats in cab up front (three-point seat belts apart from centre seat with lap belt); radio, bluetooth connection and aux cable.

Kitchen Area: Lovely galley kitchen in the rear of the van with built-in 2-burner stove and sink with electric pump tap… and fridge with freezer compartment. Dakoda also comes with all the essential utensils, pots, pans, knives, crockery and cutlery etc. There is also a roof vent to encourage good airflow through the van.

Dining/Living/Sleeping Area: Dakoda has an internal height of 1.91m – so standing room for virtually everyone! Dakoda has a pull-out bed which goes from folded seating to a comfortable bed measuring 135cm wide by 190cm long… about the size of a standard double bed. Then there’s the upper bunk (137cm x 210cm) that can sleep a further two people. To eat or play, fix in the removeable table and if you prefer al fresco dining, use the folding table at the rear. Dakoda has beautiful thick curtains to ensure a good night’s sleep. Note: we list bedding and towels as Extras at the booking stage in case guests prefer to bring their own. There is plenty of storage space in unit above the sink as well as over the cab.

Water Facilities: Like all Quirky Campers in NZ, Dakoda is certified self-contained. There are 40 litre fresh and grey water tanks and the fixed toilet is stored under the rear bench seat and can be pulled out for use as needed.

Electrical/Lighting and Audio Equipment: Dakoda has a leisure battery charged via a solar panel on the roof and by the engine when driving which powers the LED lights and USB sockets for charging devices. She also has a 240v hook-up and campground power cable.

Conversion Story: This time round, it’s a mum and daughter collaboration! We’ve both converted many vans before (and between us also have Cruzar, Roxy and Ollie in the Quirky family). Dakoda was purchased as campervan but we’ve made lots of changes to give her character. We hope she provides guests with amazing memories! – Ashleigh & Brenda

We had such a lovely time in Dakoda! We spent 8 days traveling around the South Island (3 adults) and felt the van was a great size for us. The sleeping space worked out well and Dakoda has good head room height for cooking. Lots of little touches were thought of (bug repellent and a hair dryer) and the van was very well organized. Brenda and Ashleigh were lovely folk to meet and rent from and they were on hand with any questions we had. Would highly recommend!
