Bert is tall enough for most travellers to stand upright and his spacious seating area (which will easily seat four… maybe six!) seamlessly transforms into a comfy bed across the back of the van at night so you can enjoy the best of both worlds with ease. Tall traveller? Don’t worry, just grab the bed extension and sleep in the other direction! Add to that his blackout blinds, full insulation, and trusty diesel heater, and you're sure to great night's sleep wherever you are, whatever the weather!
Planning a longer trip? Fear not! Bert boasts ample storage space for all your gear in his roomy boot and stylish overhead lockers. And for going off-grid, there are two shower options… keep it with the simple solar shower pack or upgrade to the deluxe gas-heated shower and tent. Bert also has an inverter for charging small devices and there's even a bike rack for all you cycling enthusiasts!
When it comes to cooking, Bert ticks all the right boxes. His fully-equipped indoor kitchenette features a fridge, sink, plenty of pantry storage and a 2-burner gas stove. Why not whip up your favourite meal then head out to enjoy your meal under his awning? For a full outdoor set-up, add on his table and chairs.
He’s just Bert-iful!

About the Campervan
Location: Bert lives in Tairua on the Coromandel Peninsula. If you are travelling from Auckland, there is a bus available from Go Kiwi Shuttles and if you’re driving your own car, it can be safely parked on the street in a quiet neighbourhood while you’re away. Bert’s owner has accommodation (Airbnb) so if you want to stay there before or after your campervan trip drop us a line and we'll connect you with Bert’s owner to check availability and book it in. Bert may also be able to be picked up and/or dropped off in Auckland for an additional charge.
In The Cab: 3 seats in cab up front (all with 3-point seat belts); stereo with Bluetooth connection.
Kitchen Area: Bert has a great set-up with large fridge, integrated 2-brner stove and sink unit and plenty of countertop space. Bert comes with all the utensils, pots, pans, knives, crockery and cutlery you will need – plus some pantry basics.
Dining/Living/Sleeping Area: Bert has an internal height of 1.75m – so standing room for many people. The bench seating and removeable table would happily seat four (invite the neighbours over!) and this turns into the bed. You can sleep across the van in a bed that is queen size in width but shorter than standard (150cm x 170cm)… but if you’re taller, add the extension and you have a bed that runs back to front with a length of 200cm. Bert has insulated floor, walls & ceiling with blackout blinds for privacy. Note: we list bedding and towels as Extras at the booking stage in case guests prefer to bring their own. There is also plenty of storage space accessed from inside and outside.
Water Facilities: Like all Quirky Campers in NZ, Bert is certified self-contained. There’s 36 litre fresh water capacity and 36 litre grey water capacity. The toilet is stored inside in a cupboard and can be pulled out for use.
Electrical/Lighting and Audio Equipment: Bert has a leisure battery charged via the engine when driving and also the solar panel on the roof. This powers the fridge, LED lights and inverter for charging small devices like phones and laptops. Bert also comes with a 230v hook-up so if you’re plugged into a powered campsite you can also use the mains power outlets for more power-hungry devices.
Type of Heating: Insulated with a diesel heater. For comfort in the warmer months the roof vent provides additional air circulation.
Outside: Bert comes with an awning and you can add optional extras including camping table and chairs, a solar shower pack… and a Joolca gas-heated outdoor shower with shower tent.
Conversion Story: I went for a swim with my daughter at local surf beach early one Sunday morning and on our way back to our truck stumbled across Bert in the car park for sale. Took a peek inside and really liked what I saw, saw a bit of an opportunity and potential and made contact with Bert’s owner and bobs ya uncle and here we are today! – Jono
