Mary Rose might be cute, but she’s also serious about freedom camping. A nifty hidden toilet keeps you fully compliant with the latest self-containment regulations, and she’s kitted out with all the must-haves – a pull-out kitchen, roomy fridge, and all the cooking gear you need to whip up a feast. Got some food prep to do? No worries, there’s plenty of bench space inside before you head out to cook under the sun.
Her powerful solar panel, combined with a 1000w inverter and large leisure battery, gives you free “off-grid” 12v and 240v power to charge and run phones, cameras, and other devices - including your laptop! Mary Rose delivers you more freedom and flexibility, removing the need to book more expensive powered sites.
When it’s time to set up camp, roll out the awning, unfold the chairs, and enjoy relaxing in our beautiful backyard. Mary Rose is fitted with a toasty diesel heater too, so you'll keep cosy even on cooler days. For more serious adventurers, there are also solar shower packs as extras and on request the bed can be configured for one, allowing for safe storage of a bike or surfboard storage inside the van.

About the Campervan
Location: Mary Rose lives in the St. Martins area of Christchurch approx. 19km (30 mins drive) from Christchurch airport and approx. 6km (12 mins drive) from the city centre. If you’re driving your own car, it can be safely parked in the driveway while you’re away. Mary Rose can also be brought to a convenient location for pick-up/drop-off by arrangement.
In The Cab: 3 seats in cab up front (2 with 3-point seat belts and centre seat with lap belt); radio, bluetooth connection or aux cable for the tunes.
Kitchen Area: Lovely granite effect countertop with upstand, sink with hand pump tap and a 49L fridge. For cooking, Mary Rose has a pull-out drawer which stores the gas stove and she has all the essential utensils, pots, pans, knives, crockery and cutlery etc.
Dining/Living/Sleeping Area: Mary Rose has an internal height of 1.58m – so only standing room if you’re on the shorter side but it’s a comfortable and practical height when considering driving and living. Mary Rose has a fixed, queen-sized bed (151cm x 210cm) which is already generous and because it runs lengthways there’s even room for over-hanging feet if there’s a particularly tall traveller! The mattress is 150mm thick for a great night’s sleep and on request the bed can be configured for one, allowing for safer bike/surfboard storage inside the van. For extra privacy and security there are tinted windows. Note: we list bedding and towels as Extras at the booking stage in case guests prefer to bring their own. There is also plenty of storage space above the cab and under the bed.
Water Facilities: Like all Quirky Campers in NZ, Mary Rose is certified self-contained. There are 25 litre fresh and grey water tanks filled and emptied using supplied hoses. Following the newly introduced requirement for a fixed toilet, Mary Rose’s is stored under the bed and slides out for use as needed.
Electrical/Lighting and Audio Equipment: Mary Rose has a large leisure battery charged via the engine when driving, LED lights and a 1000w inverter to provide both 12v and 240v power, with USB sockets for charging devices. She also comes with a 240v campground cable.

Conversion Story: My van, "Mary Rose" is named after my mum who loved to explore NZ and my godmother who wished she could have but never made it. I have loved handcrafting Mary Rose to create a van that will enable you to enjoy the splendours of NZ in the way we love to, combing adventure, freedom, inspiration and relaxation. In doing this I have used a combination of recycled and left over materials from our earthquake home rebuild and where possible salvaged native timber finishing trim from our old home, along with some other custom touches. – Matt
