About the Campervan
Location: Tira lives in Kaukapakapa, a village north of Auckland approx. 69km (1 hour drive) from Auckland airport and approx. 56km (45 mins drive) from Auckland city centre. The cheapest way to get to the pick-up location is by bus from the CBD to the Hibiscus Coast Bus Station and then a quick Uber (or the handover can be at the bus station). If you’re driving your own car, it can be safely parked on the driveway while you’re away. Tira may also be able to be brought to a convenient location - like the city centre or further south in Mount Wellington - for pick-up/drop-off by arrangement for an additional fee.
In The Cab: 3 seats in cab up front (2 with 3-point seat belts and centre seat with lap belt); radio with aux cable and wireless phone charger.
Kitchen Area: Tira has a cute, well-equipped kitchen area with a single burner gas stove and sink with hand pump tap. There’s a generous-sized fridge and all the essential utensils, pots, pans, knives, crockery and cutlery etc.
Dining/Living/Sleeping Area: Tira has an internal height of 1.3m – so no standing room, but it’s a comfortable height when considering driving and living. In day mode, Tira has a comfy couch and long pull-out table for dining or work. For sleeping, Tira has an easy-to-convert rock & roll bed (125cm x 186cm) which is a little narrower than a standard double bed. Note: we list bedding and towels as Extras at the booking stage in case guests prefer to bring their own. For extra privacy there are roll-down blinds. There is also plenty of storage space under the bed.
Water Facilities: Like all Quirky Campers in NZ, Tira is certified self-contained. There are 25 litre fresh and grey water tanks and a loo stored in the kitchen area which can be pulled out on runners for use. Having a fixed toilet means Tira is suitable for freedom camping.
Electrical/Lighting and Audio Equipment: Tira has a leisure battery which is charged via the engine when driving as well as the roof-mounted solar panels. This ensures you can operate the following features off-grid:, LED lights, fridge and USB/12V sockets for charging phones etc. There’s also an inverter for charging/using other devices. Note: there is no power hook-up.
Type of Heating: None
Outside: Tira comes with a roof rack and awning. Camping chairs and an outdoor table are available as optional extras.
Conversion Story: Being avid travellers of New Zealand, we named our van Tira, which in Te Reo Māori means company of travellers. It’s unique and homely feel attracted us to Tira. Being a Nissan van, it means that it’s easy to drive and fits into small parking spaces. We like to get out when we can to discover more of what New Zealand has to offer and hope you enjoy her too! – Bettina & Tony
