For cooking, the camping stove (ideal for outdoor use) comes stowed in the back along with all the cooking bits you’ll need, so you’re always ready to whip up something delicious.
The living area is cosy and versatile, with a convertible bed just shy of queen-size – extra comfy thanks to thick mattress pieces for a dreamy night’s sleep. Kererū’s tinted windows and quality blinds add that touch of privacy, while mosquito nets on the side and rear doors keep the bugs at bay. Need to secure your valuables? She’s got you covered with a handy onboard safe.
Certified for self-contained adventures, Kererū also sports a fixed toilet on sliders, neatly tucked into a cupboard – perfect for freedom camping! With her solar-charged leisure battery and inverter, you can keep your devices charged up wherever you go too.
Outside, Kererū comes ready to roll with an awning, roof rack, and you can add on camping chairs, outdoor table, solar shower packs for the ideal outdoor setup!

About the Campervan
Location: Kererū lives in Manuwera approx. 14km (20 mins drive) from Auckland airport and approx. 26km (25 mins drive) from Auckland city centre. If you’re driving your own car, it can be safely parked on the driveway while you’re away. Kererū may also be able to be brought to a convenient location for pick-up/drop-off by arrangement for an additional fee.

Kitchen Area: With her sleek timber cabinetry, Kererū has a generous-sized sink with goose-neck electric pump tap and an upright fridge. For cooking, Kererū has a camping stove (recommended for outdoor use) stored in the rear cupboard along with all the essential utensils, pots, pans, knives, crockery and cutlery etc. and pantry basics.
Dining/Living/Sleeping Area: Kererū has an internal height of 1.55m – so only standing room if you’re on the shorter side but it’s a comfortable and practical height when considering driving and living. Kererū has a convertible bed which is just a little smaller than queen-size (150cm x 195cm)… such a luxury in a campervan! Kererū has thick mattress pieces for a great night’s sleep. For extra privacy and security there are lightly tinted windows and quality blinds – as well as the mosquito nets for both side and rear doors. Note: we list bedding and towels as Extras at the booking stage in case guests prefer to bring their own. There is also plenty of storage under the bed and even an onboard safe for your valuables.
Water Facilities: Like all Quirky Campers in NZ, Kererū is certified self-contained. There are 25 litre fresh and grey water tanks. Following the newly introduced requirement for a fixed toilet for freedom camping, Kererū’s is stored inside a cupboard near the side door which can be pulled out on sliders for use.
Electrical/Lighting and Audio Equipment: Kererū has a leisure battery charged via the solar panel and also the engine when driving, which powers the fridge, LED lights, USB sockets for charging devices. There’s also an inverter for powering devices needing 240v (mains power). While Kererū does not have a 240V hook-up campground lead can be added as an optional extra if you want to run it in through a window.
Type of Heating: None aside from cab heater (which has vents into living space)
Outside: Kererū comes with an awning and roof rack. Camping chairs, outdoor table and a solar shower pack are available as optional extras.
Conversion Story: Our campervan is so open and breezy, so light and airy that we named it after the Kererū, New Zealand’s own native wood pigeon.
