Volkswagon Caddy Maxi
We chose the Caddy as we wanted the best of both worlds. I was hesitant about being able to use a bigger van as an everyday car but the Caddy allows you to have all the benefits of fitting into car spaces easily and getting a great little camper.
We spent months converting our caddy to give a homely cabin like feel. The tent box on top always gets a lot of interest and we have used it year round. We used the caddy constantly over the year and a half of ownership, easily driving down to the coast or Wales. We have found the caddy easy to park, cheap to run and comfortable to drive.
We worked our hardest with the conversion and believe we have built a lovely little camper despite our lack of experience!
Caddy has a 1.6 Diesel engine, with 5 gears.
MOT Completed on 23/03/2023
We have concentrated on the inside of the van during the conversion process, the ultimate original plan was to have the van wrapped as the paintwork is faded in some areas.
Currently the left mirror is taped up. Still usable but would advise if the buyer wanted to change this in the future.
One injector has just been replaced in February 2023, and another was replaced before we purchased the van in June 2021.
This was a lockdown project completed by myself and my partner. We are very proud on what we managed to achieve on our conversion, and think it suits a variety of people looking for a small camper.

The UK’s #1 roof tent, built to last
The main sleeping area for the caddy set up is in the tent box lite. The dimensions for this is 140 x 240cm. This can easily accommodate two adults and a child. Or two adults and three small dogs in our case.
The downstairs area also has a pull out bed. This was designed for the current owner (I’m quite short) for the odd night and is 150cm long.
