It’s with a lot of sadness that “Big Suze”, my Fiat Ducato is being put up for sale. We had big plans together, I spent most of the third lockdown working meticulously on her (I can provide photos/videos of every step to any prospective buyers) before work stopped my progress, and then to cut a long story short, she was stolen from outside my house in Bristol nearly a year ago, recovered a week later with very minimal damage (only the ignition/door lock), but then thanks to the lovely insurance industry, it’s taken over 9 months for her to be repaired, and now I can no longer justify the insurance costs everyone is trying to charge me due to losing my no-claims (the van is not Category S due to this, had a few people ask). Right, sob story over, back to Big Suze.
She is a very hard to find 3.0l high roof 180 multi-jet, I’m 6 foot 2 so wanted a van I could stand up in, and has a whole lot of power to give with that engine, so will make a brilliant camper and adventure-mobile! She was a baker’s van before I bought her, so hasn’t done that many long journeys hence the low mileage.
Other than the conversion work, the van has had the following upgrades over the past 2 years:
– New OEM Fiat van battery (installed last month)
– New starter engine (installed last month)
– New driver’s door lock
– New driver’s wing mirror
– New glow plugs
– New fuel pump & regulator
– New brake pads / disc
– New rear door lock
– 3 x new keys
Technical details about the van:
– Year: 2016
– Mileage: 56593
– MOT until August 2023
– Manual (6 gears)
– Diesel
– Cruise Control
– AC/Heating
– Cruise Control
– Reverse parking camera
– Inbuilt Sat Nav / Bluetooth audio system / phone address book / radio
Nothing has been scrimped on and no shortcuts taken so far on this conversion. If anything, I’ve done most of the annoying painfully slow work (my ADHD made sure everything was perfect and done to the highest standard!), so she’s ready for you to add the finishing touches!, with just the electric, water system, and furniture left to add in.
I am happy to have a call with you if you’d like a full breakdown of everything I’ve done, can send a lot of photos/videos as well as my original plan for layout/electrics etc, but this is a brief summary of the conversion work so far.
– All walls, floor, ceiling insulated with Kingspan PIR Insulation boards (25mm on floor/ceiling, 50mm on walls), expanding foam, vapour sealed with aluminium foil tape and also now wrapped in Thermawrap insulation
– All rust spots on the internal body treated with hammerite (there weren’t very many!)
– Dodo Soundproofing mats added to walls, ceiling, floor, doors & cab to reduce noise
– Walls, ceiling and floor all framed to hold furniture, cupboards, bed etc
– Plywood installed on the floor, rear doors has been fully covered by tongue&groove, and walls partially covered in tongue & groove (was working on that when it was stolen)
– 2 slide windows installed on driver and passenger side
– 2 small vent windows installed either side at the rear of the van (planned to be just above where the bed would go)
– Top of the range MaxxAir MaxxFan Deluxe installed on the roof (worth £300+)
– 2 x 160W Monocrystalline Solar Panels from Renogy on the roof
– Wiring installed ready for ceiling lights, solar panel and MaxxFan installation (running through plastic conduit around all corners to insure no damage)
– Rear ladder from Rhino installed on the rear door
– Carpeting added around rear doors – had planned to do around sliding door, can give you the remaining carpet
– I also installed a swivel plate to the driver’s seat as shown in the photo, can remove if you don’t want it and will take £100 off the cost if so.
I’m a freelance photographer/videographer so planned to have a very hefty electrical system to keep everything charged, so you won’t have to worry about a lack of off-grid capabilities with what I’ve installed so far). I also am selling most of the things (batteries, solar charge controller, inverter etc) I bought for the electrical system, so I’m also happy to add these into the sale which could make things easier for you!
Think that’s it for now, but am happy to answer any questions, have a call, or for you to come have a look at / test drive the van too – just give me a message. I am very sad to see her go, but I am hoping she’ll make someone very happy.
No beds as yet, I was planning to put a permanent bed at the back of the van width ways, as it is about 6 foot wide after insulation
