Spring is on its way, as the clocks jump forwards, the days get longer and there’s a lot more time for exploring. It’s a beautiful time of year, with perfect fresh spring days that are just right for long walks. The bountiful blossoms are just beginning to show, and the flower beds and cherry trees around the UK are starting to bloom. How long does the route take? 

We’ve selected a variety of locations across the UK with spectacular spring blossoms. Tto take in all of these in one go would be an epic trip, we’d suggest several week if you wanted to see every location. If you’re a little strapped for time, we’d suggest picking a few at a time over weekends or weeks to fully immerse yourself in all the local beauty that the UK has to offer. Anglesea Abbey, Cambridgeshire 

This historic home is a riot of colour in Spring, the gardens are filled with an abundance of plants and flowers, the forest floors are decked out with Bluebells and snowdrops as early as March, and there’s plenty of space for children to run around in the woodland play area without trampling any daffodils! Explore the grounds, the historic watermill and browse in the second-hand bookshop, before stopping off at the cafe for coffee, cakes and sandwiches. A fun filled day out in the spring sunshine for all the family. 

Kew Gardens, Richmond 

Kew Gardens are spectacular botanic gardens close to London, known for their world famous collections of flora and fauna, it is an absolute wonder to wander in Spring. The bluebells are blooming in the woodlands, crocuses and daffodils hide in the shade, snowdrops poke their heads up from February, and later in the year you can spot the cherry blossoms on the cherry tree walk. There’s plenty on for the whole family, a variety of cafes, and even a gift shop where you could take away some of the wonderful plants you’ve seen on your travels. 

Sizergh House and Estate, Cumbria 

A stunning and historic mediaeval house and gardens, this estate is a step back in time. Stroll around the grounds taking in the spring buds, from the tiny flowers in the ancient woodland, to the fruit trees ripening in the orchards, there’s garden tours and even a spring bird watching event. A wild play area caters for the kids when they’re done with the walking, and there’s a lovely small cafe and second-hand bookshop ready for coffee and book browsing! 

Blickling Estate, Norfolk 

A breathtaking Jacobean estate in the heart of Norfolk’s picturesque countryside. Surrounded by majestic yew trees, this vast estate harbours a beautiful stately home, that sits next to the lake and is surrounded by the formal gardens. A little further afield you can walk your four-legged friends across the 4,600 acres of parkland, taking in the natural wonders of this National Trust site. Visit in spring with children and make use of the Early Spring Explorers Spotters Sheets to spot and name all the spring blooms. There’s the Muddy Boots Cafe for hot drinks and lunch, or the Bucks Arms pub for a well deserved hot meal and glass of wine. 

Bodnant Garden, Conwy, North Wales

The Bodnant Garden, North Wales is world famous for its stunning displays of trees, plants and flowers. Both its National collections, and champion trees draw visitors from far and wide. The historic garden and architecture dates back to the Victorian and Georgian era, and creates a historic maze of beauty surrounded by lush green flora. The formal garden and meadow display abundant flowers and rose beds, while the arboretum is home to native and exotic trees, there’s no end of things to see and do in Spring at this stunning 80 acre garden. Snowdrops blanket the Winter Garden from early spring, and the picturesque ponds are a must see at any time of year. 

Glendurgan Garden, Cornwall

A verdant hidden valley in Cornwall and a plant lover’s paradise, visit the Glendurgan Garden in Cornwall to see exotic plant life unique to the region. The woodlands of the garden lead down to the River Helford through fields and meadows that are filled with a riot of colour from the wildflowers that grow there. Explore the Cherry Laurel Maze, or the Giant’s Stride for fun filled playtime, or head to Durgan’s beach for amazing views of the sea. Finish up at the Garden’s tea rooms for coffee and cake. 

The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall

Tucked away in a valley near the quaint coastal town of St Austell, The Lost Gardens of Heligan offer a unique magical experience for everyone. Made up of a mixture of farmland, woodland walks and gardens, you could spend days exploring all the hidden nooks in this wonderful Cornish sanctuary. Spring brings colour and life to the gardens, the flower beds are blooming and the apricot blossoms are flush with colour, there’s baby animals to be seen on Home Farm and butterflies, bees and other insects buzzing, so keep your eyes open for them while you explore. 

The Meadows, Edinburgh 

The Meadows are a free to visit park close to the centre of Edinburgh and one of the city’s most loved and most popular outdoor spaces. In spring it is a sight to behold, the Meadows Cherry Blossoms bloom in phenomenal shades of pink and rose, lighting up the park, take a stroll away from the hectic city centre to bask in the shades of the blossoms or meander through the tree lined walkways. 

Dunster Castle, Somerset 

Take a walk back into history with a visit to this ancient castle and water mill, there are dramatic views of the surrounding estate, and subtropical gardens for amazing displays of mediterranean plant life. The parklands are home to a variety of UK wildlife, see if you can spot the cheeky otters in the river, or the resident kingfishers fishing by the banks.
