Renault Trafic 1.9 dCi SL29
This camper is based on the 100hp version of the 1.9 litre Trafic, fitted with the six-speed gearbox for more relaxed cruising. It is the sought-after tailgate model. The van was originally an AA van, so was well looked after. All the AA wiring has been removed and returned to standard.
There are three seats in the front, all with three-point seatbelts. There are a few marks on the seat covers but no holes and they are nice and comfortable. There is a button for air conditioning but I don’t know if it works because it’s never hot enough here to need it.
The van was serviced when I first bought it, including both belts, all filters, engine and gearbox oil changed, a new inlet pipe and brake pads. It has done very few miles since. Recently it has had a further oil change and a proper Continental / VDO MAF sensor fitted.
The body has a few little dings and scratches as you’d expect, but nothing at all serious and is generally in good condition. The underside is in good condition and there is no evidence of it ever having been welded. There is a towbar fitted without a ball, which would be ideal for a cycle rack. It’s very yellow!
The MoT was done last week and is valid until the 26th September 2025, so no need to think about it until after next summer.
Recently completed, the van has a side-cupboard arrangement with the rear cupboard accessible from the rear as well as inside. The rail-mounted table has a folding leg, and is stored behind the front seats. The futon-style sofa is comfortable both as sofa and bed. Two large windows let plenty of light in, and the walls are finished in light grey vinyl wallpaper which is wipe-clean, unlike carpet. Bubble insulation throughout.
The round sink is fed from a cold-water tap with a 10 litre removable water container and submersible pump in the cupboard beneath. There is a brand new portable gas stove in a carry case which can be used inside or outside, and plenty of storage for pots and pans.
The electrical system consists of a leisure battery charged via a split-charge relay when the engine is running, and from 230V mains when connected to a campsite electrical hook-up. The ceiling-mounted LED lights can be dimmed by remote control, and there is an additional LED strip light above the sink. The control panel provides a voltmeter plus USB and cigar-lighter style sockets for charging phones and other devices. The 230V double socket is available when connected to hook-up power, via a socket in the rear bumper.

Pull-out bed with a 6′ x 4′ (184 x 120cm) futon mattress. No cushion-shuffling and no gaps to fall into during the night. The bed pulls out in a single movement with no need to insert pieces, and has a large storage space underneath which can be accessed either from the rear of the van or by lifting the base.
