How do I book a Quirky Campervan?

Easy! Just head to the hire a campervan page on the Quirky Campers website. There you will find our full impressive fleet of campervans ready to hire. You can narrow down your search by using the filters on the left hand side of the page. These include searching by specific dates, by the number of people the van can seat or sleep, location, house rules and many more options.

Each campervan has its own individual listing where you will find:

  • Full details of the campervan
  • Photos of the set up, interior and exterior
  • A list of essential information
  • Guidance on who can hire the campervan (insurance)
  • A calendar which shows you availability and prices for that van
  • A list of optional extras for your booking

All these tools let you be really specific about the kind of campervan you want for your trip, whether you’re looking for a pet friendly van for a weekend getaway, or an EU friendly van for an epic solo-road trip, our easy to use filters and guides will help you find the ideal campervan no matter what trip you’re planning.

Guide to the Campervan Listings

There’s a lot of lingo around campervans, but not to worry, even if you’re a first time vanlifer we can help, the clear information on each van page explains everything your campervan has to offer. If you’re still unsure, or have any questions about specific vans, get in touch! We will either answer your questions ourselves or reach out to the van owner.

Van photos

These are for you to drool over and see exactly how your van is going to look inside and out, we try to show it in the best light, and give you photos of all the important features, but if there’s something you’d like another photo or video of, just let us know!

Belted Seats and Berths

This information tells you how many people; adults and children, can sleep and sit in the campervan. Berths are how many beds are available, so a 2 adult berth and 2 child berth van will have space to sleep 2 adults and 2 children. Seats refer to belted seats in the van for use while driving, you’ll need one belted seat for every person travelling in the van.

Essential Information

This section tells you the essential parts of what’s on offer in this campervan, all its key features, and the house rules, whether it’s pet/festival friendly etc. You can find more detailed information on each section further down the listing.

Vehicle Spec

The technical bit! This shows the specifications of the van you’re renting, including its size, make and model.

Insurance and Drivers information

Each of our campervans has slightly different rules for who can hire, so on each individual campervan page you can see the full information on what licences you need to hire that van in particular. You can add on extra drivers at no extra cost, but every driver will need to fill out a driver form after you’ve booked, be present at the campervan pick up and will need to provide a drivers licence, passport (if non-GB) and 2 proofs of address, but more on those later.

About the Campervan

This provides detailed information about what features the campervan has, including the seating and sleeping arrangements, what you can expect to find in the kitchen, any off-grid capabilities of your van and some details about the conversion story from the owners themselves. This should give you a good overview of the campervan but if you have any specific questions, you can always email us and we can send any requests onto the campervan owners.

Location

You can use the map view to see the location of each campervan. Each of the Quirky Campervans are privately owned and are spread across the whole of the UK, so no matter where you are you can find a local van, just right for you. The exact location of your campervan will be emailed to you on booking.

Pick-up/ Drop-off Times

When you book a campervan the system automatically sets pick-up and drop-off at 2pm, this table shows the availability of pick-up and drop-off times for this specific campervan. Bookings are per 24 hours, so if you pick up your campervan at 2pm and drop off at 2pm you will have no extra charges, if you pick up at 2pm and drop off at 4pm, there may be an extra charge for each hour. Extra hours are charged at £12.50 and can be added during booking as an additional add on. Times can be confirmed with owners once you have made a booking.

Making a Booking

Once you’ve chosen your perfect campervan, it’s time to book! Follow these easy three steps for starting your campervan journey:

  1. Input the dates you would like to book on your chosen campervans calendar, any dates that are greyed out are already reserved or unavailable.
  1. Choose any additional add-ons you would like for your booking. The page will then show you the price of your booking in full. This price includes insurance and everything you need to get in your campervan and go.
  2. Input your name, email and phone number and click BOOK NOW.

If your chosen campervan is on INSTANT BOOK, and your booking is in more than 30 days, you will be able to make a payment and confirm your reservation right away. If not, once you have input your information our system will send the owner of the campervan the details of your booking, the owner will then accept your booking if they are able to accommodate it and you will receive a booking confirmation. Bookings made last minute will always need to go to the owner first to confirm if they are able to accommodate the reservation.

Insurance

Each booking comes with insurance and breakdown included. This covers 1-3 drivers in the cost of the booking with an excess of £1500.00*, this is the maximum you will pay in case of any issues with the campervan, we recommend reading through the booking conditions ahead of your booking.

* Subject to drivers meeting standard criteria, this may change depending on the campervan and the driver’s licence/experience.

Payment

To confirm a booking you will need to make a non-refundable payment of 20% of your booking total. The remaining balance of your booking will be payable 30 days before your booking starts.

A £500.00 security deposit will be placed as a hold on your card 2 days before your booking is due to begin, and will be released up to 7 days after the booking ends, provided there are no issues with the campervan.

Next Steps!

Once your booking has been confirmed, you will receive an email with your booking confirmation. This email has all the details of the van you booked.

You will also receive a second email, this will give details of all the paperwork required ahead of your departure in your campervan. It will also contain the contact information for your chosen campervan’s owners – you can contact them with any questions you have about the campervan or the booking.

Finally there will be a link in the email to an external provider of excess insurance, this is recommended to all customers alongside travel insurance, and will reduce your excess to £100.00.

Paperwork

We know this is the least fun part of renting out a campervan, but once it’s done you get to have fun!

Driver Form

All those intending to drive need to fill out a driver form with their details. This will have been sent to you as a link in the above mentioned email, if you can’t find it, just let us know on bookings@quirkycampers.co.uk and we can resend you the link.

Two proofs of address (dated within 90 days)

Valid Driving Licence

Passport (Outside of UK)

These documents can be sent by email to the campervan owners. Hirer’s from outside of the UK will need to provide an additional proof of ID in the form of a passport. If you are unsure about the requirements, please contact us as soon as possible so we can straighten any issues out.

Picking a Destination

Get ready to pack your bags and head off on tour! Now you’ve chosen your travelling companion you get to choose your destination, the wilds of Scotland, the stunning vistas of the Lake District, or the long sandy beaches of Cornwall, anywhere within the UK is fair game.

EU Travel

If you’re planning on taking your campervan to the EU, make sure you’ve chosen an EU friendly campervan. These vans will have an EU Travel Kit available to purchase as an optional extra, you must purchase one of these if planning on taking the van to the EU, this covers the cost of an EU Travel Kit and the Vehicle on Hire Certificate (VOH)

VOH Form – The owner of the campervan will need to request this from the RAC (the owner fills out the form, not the customer). It costs £8, if it is needed within 48 hours, it costs £14.95.

Once you’ve booked, be sure to let the campervan owner know the destination you’re planning to visit to ensure the right breakdown cover and insurance is in place.

Picking up your Campervan

The time has finally come, the bags are packed and you are ready to venture into the world in your trusty campervan. You will have organised with the owner of the van your pick-up time and the location of your campervan should have been sent to you when you booked.

Make sure to bring your driver’s licence with you when you pick up your campervan, and remember that all named drivers will need to be present to pick up the campervan.

The owner will go through a handover with you to introduce you to the campervan and run through how everything works. They should have a handover guide for the campervan and run through an inventory, and check the van for prior damage (scratches, nicks etc) marking them on the vehicle section on your driver form.

Once all the paperwork has been completed, you’re ready to go, get the bags in and set off in your new home on wheels.

On Your Holiday

While you’re away in your campervan we hope you’ll have no need of any help at all, nothing but blue skies and easy sailing. But, as we all know, accidents do happen. You will have the contact information of the van owner in the van or on your phone – if you ever run into an issue, van breakdowns, or accidents, or if something in the van isn’t working as it should, they are your first port of call.

All our campervans come with breakdown cover as standard, so if there’s an issue that isn’t fixable over the phone you should have the breakdown cover information in the campervan with you, or you can get this from the campervan owner. If they are able to fix the issue and get you back on the road, great! If not, the breakdown provider should cover your repatriation back to the starting point of your journey. Contact Quirky Campers and we will do our best to find another suitable campervan to continue your trip in.

Returning Your Campervan

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. When it’s time to return your campervan be sure to try and return it at the drop-off time arranged, if you’re going to be early or late, let the campervan owner know ahead of time. Once you have returned the campervan be sure to mark its state on return, taking photos and videos if you can. Leave the keys with your campervan owner and be sure to let them know how your trip went.

Feedback

We love to hear feedback from our customers, any feedback you have, good or bad, is always welcomed. You’ll receive a review link for both the campervan and Quirky Campers after your booking, so let us know what you think and please share photos from your amazing trip, we love to see our campervans on exciting adventures!

YES! All our campervans come with specialist comprehensive campervan hirer’s insurance. This will usually cover up to 3 drivers aged between 23 and 75  at no extra cost for UK licence holders, unless stated otherwise on the campervan’s web page.  The excess (maximum you pay in the event of damage) varies depending on the vehicle and the drivers and can be between £1500 and £2000 (most hires are £1500 – see below for details). UK and EU residents can opt to take out an excess reimbursement policy here through our recommended third party provider enabling you to claim the excess back in the event of an accident minus £100. We do recommend you also take out your own travel insurance for that extra peace of mind.

Who does the insurance cover?

Unless otherwise stated on the campervan’s web page, the insurance covers drivers which meet the following criteria:

Excess: There is an excess of between £1500 and £2000 in the event of any damage to the vehicle. This amount is set by the insurer and is dependent on driver age, convictions, claims and country of issue (for a UK driver with a clean license it will be £1500). International Drivers from most countries can be covered but the excess is likely to be higher than £1500. Non-UK drivers must be able to present a passport or ID card. Breakdown cover is also included – details will be in the Campervan. Drivers: Most of our campervans offer the first 3 drivers for free – additional drivers can be added at an extra cost. All named drivers must be present to collect the campervan as they will all need to sign the agreement and present their documents. This will be released 1 week after the the booking end date, providing the vehicle is returned safely and in the same condition as it was at the start of the booking.

What if I crash or damage the campervan while on hire?

The driver will be liable for the insurance excess in the event of any damage to the vehicle. Anything beyond that is covered by the insurance where a claim can be made. The driver is responsible for getting the contact details of any third parties involved.

Obviously we hope you will take care of these beautiful campervans. Minor damage is likely to be overlooked but please do let us know! Campervan owners reserve the right to charge you for damage to the interior or exterior, fixtures and fittings.

The insurance excess varies from £1500 to £2000 dependent on the insurer used and the drivers being insured. The excess amount will be confirmed once final payment has been received and the driver form filled out. The driver will be liable for part or all of the value of the excess in the event of the vehicle being damaged and/or a claim being made.

In the event that no driver was operating the vehicle when the damage occurred the first driver will be named as responsible for the vehicle at that time.

Is there a fuel charge?

No. You pick up the campervan with a full tank and bring it back the same way.
