Chateau Radical is an uber cool campervan conversion for hire in Exeter, South West UK. This eco-friendly camper has been hand built using reclaimed and upcycled materials to create a one of a kind camper with totally unique style and design. The living area has been divided into a front seating and eating area where you will also find lots of storage over the cab. The middle of Chateau Radical hosts the double bench seats which convert into a double bed at night. The rear sofa seat faces the incredible kitchen and you can sit with the back doors open to take in the views.
The kitchen has been set up so you can use it with the doors closed inside, or give yourself an al fresco vibe by standing to cook outside! We absolutely love this design, and the fact that the kitchen is also fully equipped with a fridge to chill your beer as you take in a magnificent beach sunset just sounds like heaven!
Chateau Radical has been crafted with materials such as live edge redwood worktops, upcycled French wine boxes, oak veneer flooring, and excess insulation from a building project that otherwise would have gone to waste. The owners used Shou Sugi Ban (the Japanese technique of waterproofing wood by burning it) on the tongue and groove ceiling, one of the side walls and the trim work around the bed. The curtain rails and surfboard racks are custom designs using copper pipe. These materials and techniques have come together to form a beautiful camper that feels really high quality and has been cleverly thought out for storage and versatile living. About the Campervan
Description of Beds:. Chateau Radical sleeps up to 2 people in a 4-foot-wide double bed. This folds up to form a pair of bench seats during the day.
Description of Seating: Two belted swivel seats (with head rests) in the front. One (unbelted) front facing bench, and one (unbelted) rear facing bench. Both benches can seat 2-3 people.
About the area: Chateau Radical lives in Exeter, Devon in a quiet residential area. She is a 10-minute walk to the city centre bus station, 15 mins to the University and Central Train station and 5 mins to Polsloe Bridge train station. Exeter is the gateway to the South West of the UK, so you are well placed to start your road trip to visit some amazing locations including:

Parking:. Chateau Radical lives in a quiet residential area. If you drive to collect the campervan, you are welcome to leave your car in her usual off-road parking. If you're arriving by train or bus, let us know in advance and we might be able to collect you.
Cooking Equipment: Chateau Radical has a really unique kitchen that can be used inside and outside. It comes with a fridge/freezer, and everything you need to cook up a storm; including: 4 each of knives | forks |spoons | mugs | glass tumblers | dinner plates | side plates | bowls | shot glasses | slate coasters. She has 2 of each of: (Glass) wine glasses | (plastic) champagne flutes and metal mugs.
Additionally, this fully equipped kitchen has a big range of cooking utensils such as knives, chopping board, pots and pans, toasting rack, cafetière and kettle. She also has a tray, zip lock bags, scourer, washing up brush and liquid, tin foil, olive oil, salt & pepper and a dozen herbs and spices!
Water Facilities: There is an 11-litre removable water tank that supplies water to the sink via a pump. A camp shower is available as an optional extra. This uses a USB rechargeable pump to send water from a bucket and/or fresh water container (provided) to a shower head. We provide this along with a solar shower which means you can take a hot water shower outdoors!
Toilet Facilities: Due to the current situation, a portable toilet is included in the price. The toilet is stored in a draw of the van and can be used in situ or in the pop up tent (purchased as an add on).
Audio Equipment: Chateau Radical has a Kenwood CD Player head which is accessible from front and rear of the van. This is complete with USB, line in and Bluetooth so you can play your own music. (This runs off the leisure batteries, so avoids running down the main batteries.)
Extra Information: She has a selection of books and games and lots of practical / safety features including:
A dustpan & brush, washing line, mini USB fan, pop up bucket, lantern, picnic blanket, backpack cool bag, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, smoke & carbon monoxide alarms, and various emergency breakdown items. (jump leads, high vis vest, jumbo sponge, rope, bungees.)
Conversion Story: Chateau Radical was bought as a builder's van in 2018 and an immediate conversion was undertaken for a festival trip to Croatia. In Autumn 2019, she had a fresh new conversion when the owners bought a Luton for their wedding rentals/events business. She owes her name in part to a nickname of a good friend’s old house, as well as the French wine boxes that make up the drawer fronts and cupboards. The owners have poured their heart and souls into this eco-friendly self-build conversion and it shows!
