About the Campervan
Bedding: Nelson sleeps two people in a bed reconfigured from its L-shaped benched seating. The frames extend out to form a double bed measuring 125cm wide x 190cm long.
A double duvet, two pillows and cotton undersheet are all provided.
Vehicle seating: Nelson is a high-roof van with premium features including air conditioning, bluetooth stereo, rear/front parking sensors, cruise control, heated seats and a ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) compliant engine. The cab has belted seats for up to three people.
Electrical setup: A 110A lithium leisure battery is powered by a 200w solar array with a smart charging system, including an electric hook-up point for mains power. In addition to the 12v USB charging points, when off-grid a smart inverter automatically converts 12v-240v to power the mains sockets.
About the area: Nelson is located above Poole Harbour in Dorset – with direct ferry terminal links to France or simply across the famous Sandbanks ferry to Studland, Corfe Castle and the many other landmarks of the Jurassic Coast. South Dorset is home to the rolling Purbeck Hills, beaches of all sizes and description, and a variety of rural campsites if you’d rather stay closer to amenities.
Parking: Private off-road parking is provided in a residential car park, or patrons can be picked up from Parkstone Station 5 minutes down the road, which has a regular direct train to London Waterloo less than 2 hours away.
Cooking equipment: Nelson has a front-facing kitchen with overhead extraction fan, which includes a sink with cold tap and a two-burner gas hob with whistling kettle. Accompanying this is a selection of enamel crockery and mugs, cutlery, knives, cooking utensils, thermos, pump soap and washing up equipment. A frying pan and two pots are provided for simple cooking. The top-loading 43 litre fridge is both efficient and spacious, and can be switched to night mode for a quiet night’s sleep.
Water and sanitation: An external cold water shower hose connects to the outside of the van, drawing pumped water from the same tank as the internal kitchen tap. A portable cassette toilet with chemicals can be hired as an optional extra.
Heating: A high-capacity gas tank mounted beneath the vehicle can be topped up using an external fill point at any service station with auto gas (LPG). This powers an air heater which can be controlled via a digital thermostat to keep the interior toasty throughout the year.
Extras: Optional extras can be requested from the dropdown menus when you book. These include camping chairs, beach towels, portable Bluetooth speaker, a Porta Potti cassette toilet, and EU pack.
European travel: Please contact us at least a week in advance if you plan to take Nelson to Europe.
Conversion Story: The interior joinery – from teak-decked floor to cladded ceiling – has been designed with both form and function in mind, which we hope you’ll appreciate as you discover each new custom-made cabinet, locker and pouch.
Nelson’s owner builds bespoke campers inspired by wooden boats, using traditional craftsmanship to create robust interiors capable of withstanding all elements. We specialise in producing natural conversions optimised for versatility of space and equipped for an off-grid life without boundaries – and Nelson is certainly the flagship of our fleet. The van was named after the admiral in a nod to its maritime influence and a small yet potent stature that punches high above its weight.
