BOOM! BOOM! We’re delighted to welcome Basil to the Quirky fleet. If you’re torn between wanting an adventure, action packed camping holiday and a cosy BnB type of getaway, then be torn no more, as Basil offers you the ‘pesto’ of both worlds. Located in the magical city of Glasgow, there’s so much to be discovered on Basil’s doorstep such as the Botanical Gardens and Glasgow Cathedral. Sleeping two in a comfortable double bed and one child in a small single, Basil is the ideal choice for a family trip or romantic escape for two. Both beds can be left made up to eliminate faffing at night or folded away during the day to maximise space.

Basil’s cool tones and light soft furnishings, create the optimum setting for a relaxation night in. Open the back doors, fire up the hobs and get ready for the cooking experience of a lifetime. With two gas hobs, a grill and abundance of worktop space, the options for a delicious meal are endless. There is also a fridge so you can keep your drinks cold and ingredients fresh.

Thinking of venturing off grid? No problem. Basil has plenty of power to keep you charged and a heater to keep you warm on the chilliest of nights. Just picture you and Basil nestled in a peaceful spot, surrounded by Scotland's breathtaking lochs & mountains with a giant bowl of your favourite spaghetti - now that sounds like a match made in heaven!

About the Campervan

Description of Beds: Basil will comfortably sleep two adults and a child. The full size double bed up front measures 186cm long by 140cm wide, and the small single at the rear a comfortable 160cm by 69cm. Both beds can be left made up during the day or fold away easily for maximum seating. This flexible layout & extra space is a game changer due to the length of the van. And don’t worry about driving a slightly longer vehicle, Basil’s tail is easy to manoeuvre with a little practice and the extra space is definitely worth it! Description of Seating: There are three belted seats with headrests (including driver) up front in the cab. The sofa in the rear can be configured as an L-shape to easily seat three for meals, and the two seats by the rear doors offer the perfect spot for breakfast. Flexible lighting allows you to set the mood from well lit functional kitchen, to cosy low lighting for a snuggled down evening read or long lie-in on a dark winter morning. Description of Electrical Setup: Basil offers a 12v USB charging point in the living area and one in the cab. Independent, off-grid power is provided by a roof-top solar panel charging two large leisure batteries which will keep the lights & fridge going plus your phones charged if you plan to spend time off-grid. There's also an electrical hook up that'll power the electrics when you're near civilisation. This opens up the additional options of two 13A 3-pin sockets and a 12v cigarette lighter style output. About the area: Basil's home is in the trendy area of Finnieston, Glasgow - regularly voted one of the coolest neighbourhood's in the UK. You could even tag on a city break at the beginning/end of your road trip - the tour bus stops right outside Basil's home. His very central location is walkable from both Central & Queen Street Stations. If you don't fancy walking from the train stations or are flying in to Glasgow Airport, it's just a short taxi ride. Glasgow provides a great base from which to start your holiday - within minutes of collecting Basil, you can be on the motorway heading out of the city to explore all that Scotland has to offer! Parking: If you are arriving by car, we can arrange a secure, underground parking space in our gated apartment building for a small charge - please select the parking duration in 'additional extras' when booking. Cooking Equipment: Basil's kitchen offers two gas hobs and a gas grill, along with plenty of counter space for preparing ingredients. And the roomy on-board fridge keeps everything fresh. You'll find everything you could need to rustle up a hearty meal or a light salad including: traditional enamel mugs and beakers, bamboo dining plates and bowls for four, cutlery and wine glasses, chopping boards, kitchen knives and utensils, a kettle and teapot, cafetiere, frying pan, saucepans, mixing bowls, colander, tin opener, waiter's friend corkscrew/bottle opener, small bin, dustpan & brush. Water and Sanitation: Basil has a large fresh water tank that can be topped up via a lockable port outside the van. Ample cold water flows from the kitchen tap into the enamelled sink below, courtesy of an automatic pump. There are two 12L grey water tanks for easy changeovers. If you're off-grid or just don't fancy running outside to the toilet at night, Basil has the option for a portable bathroom set up. This includes: chemical toilet, bathroom tent & shower. This option maximises the living space inside the van while still making sure you have everything you need on the road. Audio Equipment: Bring the space to life with your own choice of music via Bluetooth connection to the onboard entertainment system. Or tune the DAB radio to your favourite station. Heating: Basil is fully insulated but also offers a highly efficient, thermostatically controlled diesel heater that will maintain a cosy living space on even the coldest of Scottish days. Conversion Story:Basil's interior design and layout was created by his previous owners after hiring several Quirky Campers and deciding how to offer comfortable and flexible accommodation for couples and young families. The whole fit out was delivered beautifully by talented cabinet makers, to their detailed plan. We fell in love with the light and spacious interior and how flexible the space can be depending on who's travelling and what the weather's like. We've made a few wee tweaks to make it even more user-friendly and now Basil is the perfect bothy to accompany you on your Scottish adventures. Socials: check out @rearwithaview on Instagram for more of Basil's photos/info Warning: The payload of this vehicle is 360kg. This is below the Quirky Campers recommended payload of 370kg for a vehicle with 3 belted seats. Drivers need to be aware that the total weight of driver, passengers and baggage must be below 360kg to keep the vehicle within its legal Max Allowed Mass (MAM) of 3500kg.
