About the Campervan

Description of Beds: Scout sleeps up to five people; two adults in the lower full double bunk with comfy memory foam topper (135 x 180cm) and two children in the upper small double bunk (125 x 165), which can be raised up for extra headspace and room during the day. See photos for images of the bunks in lowered and raised positions. The seats in the dining/table area neatly create a fifth small single bed for a child (90 x 155cm). Each bed has a handy reading light and a nook for storing night-time essentials. Description of Seating: Scout has three belted seats in the front (including the driver) and two further belted seats (with Isofix) in the rear. All 5 seats have three-point belts and all passenger seats are suitable for a child car seat using the belt. The living space seats 4 adults at the dining table or 2 adults and 3 children, with 1 person using a stool. The rear bed zone also creates lots of additional hangout space. Description of Electrical Setup: Scout can go fully off grid! She has a leisure battery which charges when the engine is running, via solar from the panels on the roof, or when hooked up to 240v power via a hook-up lead. There are four 240v sockets which can be used when hooked up and USB charging points which can be used all of the time. You can check on the leisure battery’s condition very easily from the solar control display which shows a smiley face if it has enough juice, or a sad face if it drops below 12v, when you might want to drive the vehicle or move to a sunnier spot to recharge. About the area: Scout lives on the outskirts of Exeter, 15 minutes drive to the wilds of Dartmoor and 25 minutes from the beautiful Devon coastline. She is parked on a private residential drive off the road. Parking: If you drive to collect Scout, you are welcome to leave your car in her usual spot on our drive. If you come by train or plane, Scout’s owners should be able to pick you up from Exeter station or airport. Cooking Equipment: Scout has a large refrigerator to keep your food fresh and a stove-top coffee maker, Aeropress and enamel teapot for hot drinks. In addition to the two gas hobs inside, there is also a BBQ you can use to cook outside. Scout has everything you could need to cook up a feast, including: chopping boards, a kettle, a frying pan, a large and small saucepan, a sieve, a measuring jug and a juicer. There is a wooden cooking spoon, 1 Victorinox sharp knife, tin opener, garlic press, serving spoons, and corkscrew/bottle opener. The kitchen has a range of beautiful enamel camping mugs and crockery: 6 bowls, 6 large dining plates, 6 side plates, 6 sets of cutlery, 6 enamel tumblers and 4 glasses. She also has a collapsible draining rack, washing up bowl, small dustpan and brush and designated bin and recycling compartments. Water and Sanitation: Scout has running hot water for showers and washing up! There is a 65-litre internal water tank that supplies hot water to the sink and external shower point via a pump. It is heated via solar energy by a Truma boiler (with handy control) that can operate on gas or 240v mains electric. Scout has a discreetly stowed-away Porta Potti toilet which slides out from under the bench seat. This can be taken out and emptied using the chemicals supplied. Audio Equipment: You can play music via Scout’s built-in stereo via Bluetooth. There are USB charging points in the cabin and speakers in both the front and rear of the van. Type of Heating: Scout has a gas heater, powered by a Truma boiler. Extra Information: Scout has been beautifully crafted with lots of helpful storage solutions to make your stay as comfortable as possible. This includes a large wardrobe with hanging hooks and 5 individual shelves for clothes, overhead bins for games/toiletries, larder food storage space in the kitchen drawers, as well as large storage areas under both bench seats. Under the bunk beds is the ‘garage’ storage area for larger beach and camping equipment. The van comes with an awning to protect you from the weather and an outdoor mat and picnic blanket. There are lots of useful extras you can rent with her too. Conversion Story: We found Scout working on a family farm in the Welsh valleys, and realised she had all the potential to be a beautiful adventure van. She was converted in 2023 by Jack at Twin Coast Campers in Devon after we saw his work on the Quirky site. Scout is inspired by the rural Welsh cabins we have seen on our explorations into Pembrokeshire. Her units are built in ply with painted cabinet doors, and her cushions are upholstered in Welsh blankets - a nod to her origins and our family heritage. She has many beautiful details to discover, as well as modern luxuries such as a heater and hot running water to make your adventures as comfortable as possible.

We had a wonderful 3-night stay in Scout. We stayed close to Dartmoor, and experienced the full spectrum of English late-summer weather, from lovely sunny afternoons to foul lashings of heavy rain. Through it all Scout was a most faithful and comfortable home for our family. Our 1.5 and 3.5 year old kids absolutely loved sharing the "top bunk" in the bedroom section - so much so that it was nearly impossible to get them to bed on the first night! Everything worked perfectly throughout, and after three days I had fully channelled my inner Lewis Hamilton when tearing Scout around the narrow lanes of Devon. All in all, a fantastic and memorable experience for the family - I cannot recommend Scout any more highly. If we don't buy our own campervan, then we'll most certainly be knocking on their door again one day in the future!
