About the Campervan

About the area: Toffee sticks safely in our Prop and Set Building workshop just near Musselburgh. From here, it’s a straight drive to East Lothian to hang out for a day on kite surfer beaches like Longniddry and Dunbar, and then on to the north of England: Lindisfarne and Alnwick. Why travel for days when you can be there in hours? Description of Beds: Toffee has four belted seats. This is super luxury for 2. However, we took our grandkids, aged 9 and 11, on a road trip to test her out, and they slept under the bed on a camping mattress. They nicknamed it the foxes' den. Bigger kids or adults could sleep in a tent. The double bed is 190cm long and 130cm wide. The under-bed space is 80cm by 190cm. The double bed is safe for up to 180kg. Description of Seating: Toffee has four 3-point belted seats with headrests - “2 in the front, 2 in the back in the back... don’t look back”. With the bed in the up position, there is plenty of space to walk around, and 4 will be comfortable cooking, reading, and hanging out. Description of Electrical Setup: Toffee is designed to be wild for up to 3 days. Download the Victron App and you can check the power, see what’s coming in and going out. You’ll also know how many power days/hours you have left before you need to drive, hook up, etc. There is a 360w solar panel feeding 2x 128 amp hour batteries, inverter, and battery protector. There is also a hook-up for campsites and you will charge the batteries as you drive. Parking: we suggest you come to pick up Toffee at our workshop near Musselburgh. There you can safely park a car . However we can arrange a pick up in the leith area of Edinburgh. Cooking Equipment: Toffee has 2 gas burners and a grill, with an electric ignition. Wooden spoons, pots, pans, cutlery, corkscrew, etc., included. Cafetiere for coffee, teapot for tea, whistle gas kettle, 4 mugs, enamel side plates, dish plates, and bowls, traditional tin camping mugs, a chopping board, a kettle, large and small frying pan, large and small saucepan, steamer. There are four wooden cooking spoons, 2 sharp knives, a tin opener, corkscrew/bottle opener, a colander, washing-up bowl, and small dustpan and brush. Water and Sanitation: Our campervan has an outdoor shower. at the back . The 5-litre hot water tank is electric. The water tank is 57 litres. There is a pump to keep the water pressurised. Audio Equipment: We provide a Bluetooth speaker for music. The van's audio system is Bluetooth as well. Type of Heating: The van has a diesel heater with a remote switch. Pet Information: We took our border terrier, Felix, with us on our test trip, so we are DOG friendly but NO Cats as we have a strong cat hair allergy. Extra Information: Toffee is a handmade camper with a quirky, one-of-a-kind charm. Forget corporate grey and laminated finishes—Toffee is full of personality and chewy-good fun! A quick tip: don’t overpack, especially with big suitcases. Leave them in the car and unpack into Toffee’s clever storage spaces—she’s a real Tardis with room for all your essentials. Toffee is speed-limited to 70mph, so skip the motorways and embrace the scenic route. Take it slow, soak in the views, and let Toffee make your journey as enjoyable as the destination. Conversion Story: We are puppeteers and theatre-makers. If you Google “10m tall Giant puppet Storm,” you’ll find one of our most ambitious projects. Last year, we took our show, The Fantastic Life of Minnie Rubinski, to Oslo, Norway. To make it happen, we bought a low-mileage LWB high-roof van. After the trip, we thought—why sell this beauty? Let’s transform her into our dream campervan. Toffee’s build reflects our theatre roots, featuring recycled materials like cute sporrans for clothes storage, timber offcuts, and fabric scraps. She’s filled with light,, cool colours, and soft lights. Nothing typical here—just creativity and character. it took 6 months of hard work to get Toffee ready. She’s unique, she’s special, everybody has loved driving and staying her . Let her be your home-from-home as you explore Scotland. Park up, wander into the hills, then return to a hot cup of tea and a great night’s sleep. About the Owner: We’re Kim Bergsagel and Symon Macintyre, creators, builders, and dreamers behind Vision Mechanics, our production company based in Scotland. For years, we’ve been crafting incredible and unusual theatre experiences, from giant outdoor spectacles to intimate, thought-provoking performances. Our work combines imagination, innovation, and a love for storytelling that pushes boundaries and captivates audiences. Last year, we decided to try something new. Taking inspiration from our theatrical roots, we built Toffee, our first campervan—a quirky, one-of-a-kind creation filled with character and charm. Just like our shows, Toffee is designed to inspire adventure, spark joy, and offer unforgettable experiences.
