About the Campervan

About the area: Calum lives in a beautiful East Lothian Village 20 mins drive from Edinburgh, 50-minute direct bus route and 3-minute drive from the Edinburgh bypass - a highway that will take you straight to the Highlands! Located in a quiet residential area which is great for practising driving before you hit Scotland's crazy windy roads. Access to all of Scotland's incredible tourist roads is moments away. You can explore Glencoe and Glenfinnan (Harry Potter fanatics fave) 2.5 hours away. Aviemore and Lochness are 3 hours and Glasgow and Loch Lomond are just 1 hour. Isle of Skye is 4.5 hours of unbelievable road trippin' and our local favourite, the East Lothian's stunning beaches, completely untouched and unvisited and genuinely just as good as the NC500 in our opinion are 20 mins from our house. The borders and Dumfries and Galloway are also untouched gems. There is so much to see in Scotland right now! Description of Beds: The bed is the most glorious addition to Calum. It is unusually vertically situated (so no more toes hitting off the walls) and is a kingsize Emma mattress worth £1000.00. You will sleep for days under the super soft sheets with all the room you need - especially great for tall people! There is also a little bed across the bottom converted from the dining table that is 170 x 65 cm and perfect for a child or small adult. There is space for a travel cot to go up if required for a baby. Description of Seating: Three passengers sit up front in the van. The driver's seat has suspension so it feels like a flying armchair. It's hilarious! We can provide car seats for all ages if required. Description of Electrical Setup: Calum has a 12v leisure battery powered by a solar panel. It has 2 USB charge points, a light, a powered tap and a diesel heater! Parking: If you drive to collect Calum you are welcome to park in our driveway during your stay. Cooking Equipment: Calum has all you need to cook up a storm after a day on the hills! 3 bowls, 3 big plates, 3 side plates, 3 mugs, a cutlery set, a pan set, a sieve, a cafeteria (for proper coffee) chopping board kettle and most importantly a bottle opener! Water and Sanitation: There is a 40-litre water tank to run water to a sink for tooth brushing, washing etc. We also have a USB-powered travel shower that connects to the back of the van! Audio Equipment: Top-of-the-range GPS sat nav and reversing camera unit. Bluetooth and radio. Type of Heating: Calum has a diesel heater to keep you going through the winter. This van is perfect for a cosy winter hire. Conversion Story: Calum was handmade by a local podiatrist of all professions! His passion for art and graphics is seen in the quirky mountain designs and geometric art throughout. The rustic wooden panelling contrasts with the modern gadgets making this van perfect for cosiness yet also convenience. We often chat to the designer to keep the van relevant and make upgrades when we see fit. Calum was underused for his handsome looks so the first thing we did was take him away to the hills for a week and kit out his interior making a house a home. Now his rustic charm has been matched with homely features such as curtains, pictures, a little library and even a chessboard. About the Owner: Calum's owners are Kirsty and Mike. Two crazy adventure enthusiasts with an even crazier one-year-old! We met in lockdown when the only travel was van travel and after comparing campers on our very first date by the end of the same month we were away touring the Isle of Skye and the NC500. Since then we have been to numerous campervan spots throughout the country. Jumping in lochs, SUP’ing on rivers and climbing the hills. We are obsessed with Scotland and with Kirsty coming from the west and Mike from the east - combined we have a pretty decent knowledge of how to create the perfect trip. Our recent addition to our family is our adventurous wee baby ! He has taught us how to travel with kids and we have all the equipment and tips you need to make babies and campervans a holiday that not only works but gets the babies away from their overstimulated environment and back to nature.

Hosted by Kirsty

We are Mike and Kirsty. Two adventurous Scots with a crazy one year old. We met in 2020 and (as the pubs were shut) our second date was in our camper and by the end of the month we were on a road trip round the NC500. Raising a baby together has been an incredible experience and we have loved taking our wee guy outdoors into the mountains. Consequently, we have a passion for family travel and know a few hidden gems. We also provide baby toys and child seats/travel cots in the van if needed.
