About the Campervan

About the area: Mara lives in central Edinburgh and is parked on a quiet residential street easily accessible by public transport. Whilst based in a beautiful historic and cultural city, the rugged Scottish landscapes are not far away! Within a few hours, you can reach the Cairngorms, the Highlands, the West coast and more. The stunning landscapes vary from white sandy beaches to towering mountains. Whether you're after an adrenaline-fuelled activity trip or a more relaxing historic and cultural journey, the opportunities are endless. Description of Beds: Mara sleeps up to four people. Two can sleep downstairs in the double bed that converts from the seating area (185 cm long x 145 cm wide), and two can sleep in the pop top (180 cm long x 103 cm wide), which can also be used without the bed pulled down for extra headspace and room during the day. Description of Seating: There are three belted seats in the front (including driver). All seats have three-point belts and headrests. Passenger seats are suitable for a child car seat. The main living space comfortably fits six adults if you're entertaining! Description of Electrical Setup: On or off-grid you'll have no problems. Mara is equipped with a 12v and 240v electrical system. The 12v system has a 110Ah lithium battery which charges three ways - when driving, from rooftop solar and when connected to mains hookup. The 240v system is used via a 1000w inverter or mains hookup. Even without an electrical hookup, you can be off-grid for days. USB and plug outlets will allow you to charge your devices easily. Parking: There is non-permit on-street parking 1km from the location of the van. If you are driving, please be aware of LEZ restrictions close by. If you arrive by train or plane, we are easily reachable via public transport, or collection can be arranged (at a cost), subject to availability. Kitchen Facilities: Mara has two full sized gas hobs inside. Food can be kept cool in the fridge (12V cool-box style). There is everything you could need to produce a delicious meal including: a large and small frying pan, a saucepan with lid, a set of enamel plates, side plates, bowls, mugs and cups for 4, cutlery for 4, various kitchen utensils, three chopping boards, cafetiere, spices, salt and pepper, oil, tea and coffee. Mara also has a bin, a dustpan and brush and cleaning/washing up equipment. Bathroom Facilities: There is a 16l removable water tank in Mara that supplies water to the sink via an electric pump. Mara is also fitted with a 16l grey water tank. Water can be heated by using the kettle on the gas hob. Audio Equipment: Mara has standard VW built-in speakers in the front with connection via Bluetooth, aux and USB. A portable Bluetooth wireless speaker for use when not driving can be supplied upon request. Type of Heating: Mara doesn't have specific heating, but the hot water bottle, blanket and thick duvet will keep you warm and toasty. Pet Information: Pets are welcome; however, please be mindful of muddy paws on upholstery. We politely request that pets be kept off the soft furnishings and front seats. Conversion Story: Mara began life as a modest panel van, living an uninspiring life of transporting tools. We rescued her last year and got straight to converting her for a life of adventure and exploration! Mara is converted to an extremely high standard, with bespoke fittings throughout. She was designed and built by van users, with meticulous attention to detail, aiming to optimise storage and indoor lounging for when the Scottish weather may not provide. Every detail has been thoughtfully converted to make your trip comfortable, whether you're chasing sunsets on the West Coast, winding through the Highlands, or playing games with friends on a rainy day. We converted Mara to help more people experience the beauty of the Scottish outdoors, just like we love to do! About the Owner: We are Jack and Hollie from Porth Vans. We first converted a van back in 2021 and have since moved up to Scotland, where the freedom of wild camping and incredible Scottish landscapes mean van life just makes sense, with endless opportunities to explore the outdoors at your own pace. Jack is a chartered engineer by day, carpenter/maker by night. From making surfboards to car mechanics, he really is a Jack of all trades! Hollie is a scientist and a sports lover. We spend most of our time outdoors (when we're not stuck behind a computer screen working!) and take any opportunity to escape in our van at the weekends to run, cycle and surf (insert any other activity here). We both love the outdoors and want other people to be able to see it as we do. Mara is the perfect opportunity to do so. As a hand-crafted, bespoke build, Quirky Campers seemed a perfect platform to allow fellow adventurers to experience the joy of van life! Extra Information: We're keen to help you experience the best Scotland has to offer. Having explored Scotland by van for a few years, we are on hand to give advice on planning a trip or provide recommendations once you're on the move. We will provide you with our trusty guidebook (the Wild guide), which never fails to deliver!

An amazing week exploring the Glen Coe valley and the white sands and clear blue seas of the west coast. You couldn’t ask for more than Mara - easy to use, lots of helpful and well thought through features, a comfy bed and a kitchen better equipped than ours at home! Thank you Jack and Hollie - can’t wait to be back.
