Conversion Description

Overview

In brief the van has seating for 3 in the front, a fixed full sized double bed, fixed table and seating, large garage area in the back, diesel heater, compressor fridge, 3 burner gas hob with oven and grill, gas shower, 120l fresh water capacity, stainless steel sink, water pump, inverter, solar power, split charge relay, LED lighting, a roof light and side window, and is fully insulated.

The van has been converted by myself over the last couple of years and all of the appliances have been purchased brand new during this time. It has taken me on several long trips of 2 or 3 months, through France and Spain, to Portugal, the Alps, Germany and around the UK. It has been nothing but reliable the entire time. The condition of the van is extremely good for its age. Body work is great with very little rust. The paintwork has some areas of discoloration but overall is very good. The electrics, plumbing and appliances are all excellent and have given me no problems at all.

Details

Bed: Frame made of steel and extremely solid. It has proper sprung wooden slats and a very comfortable double mattress (new 2018).

Garage: Underneath the bed there is a large garage area with checker plate flooring. This has space to store large bikes standing up (with front wheel and saddle removed), and surf / snow boards vertically, so these items take up very little space.

Furniture: Worktops are reclaimed hardwood. Engineered wood flooring. Plywood furniture. There is storage under the seating area, shelving next to the bed, a wardrobe / hanging area, drawers under the bed and above the fridge, and a large cupboard.

Heating: Webasto Airtop 2000 diesel heater (new Feb 2016), connected to the van’s main diesel tank. Simply turn the thermostat to operate.

Fridge/Freezer: Dometic / Waeco CRX 65 compressor fridge (new Sep 2018) with freezer compartment.

Gas oven: Dometic moonlight 3 burner with oven and grill (new Oct 2019).

Shower: Eccotemp gas shower (new Sep 2019), mounted in garage area for hot showers outside.

Water: Shurflo Trailking 10 30psi water pump (new Dec 2017), with accumulator, mounted in garage area. This supplies the sink and the shower from a 70l underslung water tank. There are 2 additional 25l water tanks in the garage area, with a simple valve to select which tank you would like to use.

Wastewater: 20l waste tank in unit under the sink.

Electrics: 2 x Bosch 100 watt solar panels to a Victron MPPT 100/20 charge controller. These charge the Rolls 116Ah AGM leisure battery. The charge controller can be connected to your phone by Bluetooth to monitor the system. There is also a voltage sensing split charge relay from the alternator to charge the battery from the engine. Victron Phoenix 12/375 230v pure sinewave inverter which supplies 4 outlets. All appliances are fed from a central fuse box and are individually fused. All installed underneath one of the seats (all brand new 2019). There is a 12v car charger socket at the table and a double USB socket at the bed.

Gas: Refillable Gaslow LPG bottle supplying the cooker and the shower. Can be refilled at any petrol station with LPG. European adapters included.

Insulation: Fully insulated with YBS Superquilt.

Windows: Seitz mini heki plus rooflight and a professionally installed tinted side window in the sliding door.

Lighting: 4 x recessed LED spotlights in the ceiling and 2 x LED reading lights at the bedside and the table.

The bad bits: I am not a professional carpenter. Everything in the van is extremely solid, however there are some areas where the finish is not of professional quality. For example there are still some panels that have not been painted and some other finishing touches that could be improved. However it is still a very nice place to be, everything works perfectly and the van is ready to go.
