Detailed Information
Vehicle Description

VW T4: S448 KNW

Single owner for 21 years. Built 1998. Bought as new panel van (ex dealer demo) and converted to a unique bespoke design by EMC Motorhomes of Knottingley in 1999. Good service history over last 10 years.

2.4 TDI engine. 200,000 miles. Good running order. Has been very well maintained as it was used as the main business vehicle by a touring musician. 12 months MOT from Oct 15th 2021.

Elevating roof with double bed, and front aperture with insect screen.

Full-width bench seat with two 3-point and two 2-point seat belts. Converts to full-width bed, with large storage area underneath which is accessible from front and rear. Contains matching freestanding table and two mud ramps – included.

Full newly-lined curtains on all four sides. New side ‘curtain pockets’ to rear, with charging vents, plus 3 matching cushions.

Removable kitchen unit with flap-up side table and 2-ring gas cooker. (There’s no sink, as a portable bowl is more convenient). Various cupboards and small cutlery drawer. Space to store gas bottle. The kitchen has barely been used thanks to an even-more-bespoke one from a previous van. (Not included).

Highline cupboard with rear speakers and twin lights over bed. Central light (on elevating roof).

Side shelf with light and lighter socket. (There is a third lighter socket behind the kitchen unit).

360 degree rotating passenger seat.

Radio / CD player with removable fascia.

The central locking system was disabled by the dealer. Instead, the van has dead locks on both the cab doors.

Damage:

The elevating roof canvas is patched and a bit tired – but still fully waterproof.

The living area electrics do not work (battery lights were used instead), but the wiring is all in place so should be simple to fix. It may need a new leisure battery. The digital clock is not reliable.

The cooker has not been used in 20 years. It should work fine when a gas bottle is fitted (not included), but might need a little persuading.

There are numerous stone dints in the overpainted green skirt (showing white beneath) and numerous small rust spots, plus two hand-sized rust patches. All cosmetic. Plus typical rust underneath for a 20+ year old vehicle.

There are controls for a blown air gas heater, but the unit itself was removed many years ago for space reasons (a stand-alone gas heater was used instead).

The aerial snapped, but was never replaced because it still worked.

No wheel hubs – long since lost.

The fire extinguisher seen in some photos is out of date so NOT included.

Conversion Description

This is a bespoke design for short breaks with good transportation flexibility, based on decades of experience camping in VWs (I took my driving test in one). As a tall family we were frustrated by the usual furniture down one side of the van, which was usually difficult to access and amounted to wasted space most of the time. The full-width seat and bed allow maximum sleeping area for comfort (all four in the family when it was too wild to put up the roof), and four abreast on the bench seat, with plenty of storage below (usually using wheeled trays). The kitchen unit is removable to allow for van use. It holds all you need for camping. The bespoke curtains at the back have storage pockets for access from the bed. Lift out the kitchen to cook outdoors, or in a nearby tent if you like, or to give a really large area for transporting equipment or tip runs (use a sturdy ‘big bag’ and tarp). Passenger seat rotates to make a cosy sitting area, used as a meeting room and green room for make-up when filming, also band rehearsals and even as a studio.
