Detailed Information
Vehicle Description

Ford Transit 2011 – 3.5t 140ps AWD (4X4)
ยฃ10,500
Medium wheelbase, high roof

I’ve owned the vehicle since 2017 and maintained all servicing and routine maintenance as needed. It has covered 87,400 miles which is very low for the year, I purchased it at 40k so I know the van very well.
Before my ownership, it was owned by Lex auto lease which supplied it to SSE (southern and Scottish Energy) who I believe utilized it as a service vehicle for the onshore wind farms which is why it is the all-wheel drive version. Lease companies are obligated to maintain the vehicle, so it comes with a full main dealer service history which I’ve kept up. This is the only previous owner prior to myself on the log book.
During its life with SSE, it was kitted out with racking and an electrical system that closely resembled a camper van setup. Rather than replace this I left the electrical system in place as it was professionally fitted and made some minor adjustments. It has a 2000w inverter, powered by a house leisure battery, interior lighting, and a diesel heater (also professionally fitted). Iver kept the racking and utilized it to make the base of the interior, it was too good to discard however I’ve chopped it to make the layout you see in the pictures.
Because I could never settle on a layout and also often needed the use of a van, I made the setup removable so I could, as and when turn it back into a van. The current configuration was built for the last trip that took us down to Greece over four months and was more than comfortable for two adults. It would take an hour or so to dismantle and start from scratch if you’re looking to create your own space.
The bed is a full-size double and sits on a manually adjustable concertina base attached to the main racking, convertible between a double bed and a raised sofa, it also has plenty of storage underneath. Fitted draws, shelving, and a pull-out fridge space give you room for all your kitchenware and food, the fridge space is designed specifically for the Dometic CFX3 75Lt but this is not included in the sale (although we can come to an arrangement) the fridge is so efficient that you donโ€™t need anything more than the leisure battery to run it at super cold temps.
I added a plate to the bench seat in the front so it swivels to face the rear but if I’m totally honest I find this a bit of a faff so often donโ€™t bother, I intended to upgrade the seats to two Captain’s chairs but never got around to it. Because I used it as my daily runner, I also cut out the bulkhead and made it removable when in campervan mode, this will be fitted with the van on sale. Itโ€™s a matter of 10 bolts to remove (very easy). I also had the side window professionally fitted. There is an awning rail attached.
I bought 5 x BF Goodrich ko2s tires before our last trip and they have done around 5k miles and are in excellent condition, they are also better to drive on the road than most van tires and make all the difference when offroad. The van has always been, and still is restricted to 70mph, this I assume was a requirement from SSE. I enquired about removing the restrictor with Ford and they said it’s around ยฃ100ish but essentially, it’s proof that the van hasnโ€™t been thrashed about for its lifetime.
The reason for sale. Firstly I donโ€™t want to let it go, its been a great van and I know it won’t cause me any issues to keep on the road however it has been in storage for the past 18 months as I’ve been living in Asia, Iโ€™ve returned to do a Masters at my local uni and despite how great the van is it is not the most economical way for a full-time student to get around.
It just had its MOT, I had to replace the rear discs and pads and I’ve also put two new van batteries in within the past 6 months otherwise, itโ€™s great; there are a few light marks on the body, age-related stuff and a small dent caused by my Girlfriend hitting a post (pics included)
If you’re looking for a base van to make your own, or one that needs finishing but has the capability of going to more adventurous places, this is it. Itโ€™s a far more capable van on the rough stuff than anything even near its size (sprinter excluded) and will get you to places those other #vanlife guys can only ever dream of.

FIGURES:
2011
2.4 Turbo Diesel
140ps
3.5t
87,400 miles (still using)
Mot until August 2024
Medium wheelbase, High roof
Full main dealer history although the place that motโ€™d it last also did oil filter, check over etc..so has skipped the last main dealer one.
Mot raised there is some corrosion on the break lines may need looking at before the next Mot
Runs great, nothing to note or any other issues.

Things I would update/change if I wear to keep it
โ€ข Front chairs โ€“ as mentioned the swivel seat is awkward to use, it works fine and the seat is safe and secure but if you donโ€™t need the 3rd seat then I’d update it for a single captain’s chair.
โ€ข New leisure battery โ€“ I foolishly left it connected when I put it in storage so it’s running on a spare 100amph my dad had. It’s fine but I’d probably upgrade if I wear to go on a long trip.
โ€ข If you plan on keeping it as it is inside, then youโ€™d probably want to finish and refine a few things. It is not a coach-built van or made by a professional. This build was done in 5 days between returning from one trip, realizing it wasnโ€™t how I wanted it, and leaving for the next. Itโ€™s a little rough around the edges but nothing that canโ€™t be solved relatively easily. That said it’s solid and works well (Iโ€™ve done a lot of this stuff) and compared to some other vans its positively luxurious.
โ€ข It’s not registered as a camper with DVLA, not sure why you would but some people like to.
– The van has two vents in the roof, these work great for keeping the condensation away and making sure there’s no damp but they are noisy at night if its windy. They’re simple to replace but I generally tie them up if it’s really windy at night.

Itโ€™s a great van and if you want to go a little further than most people, its offroad capabilities are impressive and can get you to some fantastic spots. It’s not a coach-built, white box, fitted wardrobe, fancy splash back, #Vanlife, park in car park, out the box ready to go camper van… I’d say this is a project for someone looking to make it their own who are a little more adventurous than the camping and caravan club. If thatโ€™s you, you’ll love it!
