Vehicle Description

For sale, my 1975 Mercedes 206d (AKA Hanomag). I bought this back in January 2012 from a private seller and am now selling to help buy a house. This camper is a classic, its tax status is ‘historic vehicle’ meaning it’s exempt from tax and MOT, as such I have not had an MOT on it since 2018 and it doesn’t come with one now. But the engine is solid, I’ve never had any issues with it. It starts and runs fine and the camper drives. The front brakes are good, but I think there is not much response from the rear. All electrics are good. I have driven it for years without an MOT (as it’s exempt) but obviously have to recommend that you should make other provisions for collection.

The vehicle itself is nearly 50 years old and though I last repaired and sprayed the bodywork about 5 years ago, there are rust spots in places now. Structurally though it is sound. It’s by no means showroom condition, the cab isn’t in great looking condition, but it is reliable and sturdy. A vehicle of this age inevitably requires constant upkeep, but the rewards are worth it, if that’s your thing. I have had many great trips all around the UK in this but it’s time to pass it on to someone else.

I have done lots of work on this camper, listed in order of bodywork, mechanical and interior

Bodywork

-Full body work repair
-welding/ filling/ respray

-Window rubber replacement

-Front doors rebuild

-Rear door rebuild

-skylight replace

Mechanical

-King pin replacement

-Front wheel bearing replacement
-Clutch slave cylinder and hose replace

-Front Left brake hose replace

-Aftermarket tyres

-Alternator overhaul

-Thermostat replace

Interior

-wood burner

-wooden floors (over a sub floor)

-hardwood window frames

-table seating area, folding down to a double bed

-gas oven, two hobs

-12v pumped water from a tank under the sink

-12v solar system
-panel, intelligent relay, leisure battery

-LED spotlights, LED uplights in switchable configuration

-stereo

Things you should know about, or that may need looking at-
Little response from the rear brakes
Very slow puncture front driver side wheel
The front passenger side headlamp glass was smashed and I’ve glued it back together. You can see the joins but it’s perfectly solid and functional.
I had to replace two windows on the passenger side with plexiglass as the others were smashed (no other damage)
I have to say here that the gas bottle is not stored in a separate vented container as per regs. It never has been in 10 years of use, make of that what you will….
Add a carbon monoxide detector for the stove. Again I’ve never had one in 10 years of use, but I would recommend buying one….

I have patchy service history- original docs dated from 1978/ 79 and 1986-7 and then various MOT certificates from 2009.

I will be selling with various tools- a bottle jack, a foot pump, a spare tyre, an operating manual

Viewing recommended. Please feel free to ask questions.

Conversion Description

This model comes as a campervan originally but in a different configuration and with a toilet and shower. When I bought it it had already been gutted and so I built it bespoke from the floor up.

This has been a passion project of mine for the last 10 years. By far the highlights are in the interior, as a carpenter I’ve taken great care over making the interior comfortable and unique with an eye on the details and finish of every aspect.

The window frames are solid ash, the floors are wooden, the walls and ceiling are tongue and groove, the kitchen is tiled and the woodburner is slate-backed, with a hotplate on top.

It really is a beautiful interior, with my intention from the start to recreate the wood cabin feel as opposed to the formica modern feel of lots of campers.

All internal electrics (12v/leisure battery/switch relay), gas stove, woodburner, 12v pumped water are all functional and ready to go. There is also a solar panel on top which keeps both vehicle and leisure battery topped up with zero maintenance. The seating area is in the table arrangement, with the table (chunky reclaimed wood) folding down to make a queen size bed. The windows are covered by fold down wax-backed canvas and there are thermal curtains between the cab and living area. There is no toilet or shower, as in the original model of these campers, as I decided they take up too much room. In terms of room, the high roof means you can stand up in it too which gives it a very unclustered, open feel. Combined with the seven windows in the living area, it is a very light filled space.

Beds Description

The bed starts as two benched facing each other across a table with a removable small square section to put at either end to make a U-shape seating area. The table then folds down and the cushions making up the back of one of the bench seats fill the gaps to make a full sized bed. I’ve slept three in there comfortably but more often just two people. See pics to make more sense of it.
