*Reduced by £7000, this needs to go so it can be used this season rather than being parked up for the summer*
This is a one of a kind, 1981, Fleetwood Southwind American RV. It is classed as a ‘Historic Vehicle’ by DVLA so is tax and MOT exempt as it is over 40 years old. It can be insured with Classic car insurance and my insurance for this year was only £177 for the year.
All of the attached photos were taken last summer so are a good representation of the state of the vehicle, however, it is 44 years old so be aware that you will need to actively look after it!
I imported this vehicle from the West coast of America in 2014 and since then have slowly brought it up to the condition it is in now, it has served as a base for our family holidays over the last 10 years and has the best of memories! However, with the fun of those ten years, the children have grown up, and it’s time now for it to start memories and adventures with a new family.
It is a ‘coach build’ and is 25ft long, 8ft wide and 10ft high, so not one of the giant American RV’s and very manoeuvrable, we have taken it to Devon every summer.
It is built on what’s called a Chevrolet P30 chassis and has a 7.4 litre, V8 Chevy 454 engine, often called a ‘Big Block’, these are really common and surprisingly parts are actually quite easy to get hold of from several UK based companies. The dash is showing 63000, but who knows if that should have a 1 or even a 2 in front of it? I have no knowledge, it was showing 56000 when I imported it in 2014, so it has only done 7000 over the last ten yers.
It runs fine on unleaded fuel, but obviously its a large thirsty engine, it runs lovely on the motorway tucked behind a HGV, but not so fuel efficient on the minor roads.
I believe you would need a C1 category on your licence as its got a unladen weight of 5300kg I think.
Interior wise, hopefully the photos show its potential, it sleeps 7, we are a family of 4, the two kids loved the bunks at the rear and we had the pull out sofa as a double.
It actually still has the original working 110v built in generator but we haven’t used it, we plug into 240 mains and just use some sockets for charging etc. The fridge and cooker all run off the built in LPG tank which after a weeks camping doesn’t seem to use much gas.
If you are thinking of buying this you will probably have a million questions, and I could talk for hours about it, so please just get in touch.
As mentioned previously, it is 44 years old, there are things wrong with it, it needs looking after, and you will need to love it, but in return you will be getting something absolutely unique, there is nothing like this that I can find to compare it to. It starts conversations wherever you go and we will miss it!

Thanks for reading, Dave.
There are bunk beds in the rear for two children, in the front, the sofa pulls out to sleep two adults. The dining area also converts to a double, albeit we found it a little short for adults, then there is a further pull down bunk over the front cab seat, sleeping 7 in total.
