Detailed Information
Vehicle Description

For sale is my very loved Mercedes 709d campervan. I am reluctantly selling to help fund my house renovation. I’ve owned the van for 7 or 8 years and it’s always been dry stored. This is registered as a motorhome on the v5. This is the legendary 4.0l non turbo engine with no electronics and is known as the million mile engine. It has approximately 164 thousand miles on the clock, so is barely run in! I’ve always serviced every 5 k or annually, whichever comes sooner. She’s not a rocket ship but has lots of torque and likes to cruise at 55ish on the motorway. I’ve clocked some long trips and I consistently averaged 24mpg which I thought was amazing for the size and space of the wagon. The gross weight of the vehicle is 6.6 tonnes and loaded with a full tanks she came in just under 5 tonnes, so plenty of payload for toys and the cast iron pans! This van has taken up all over Spain, France and the UK including the Picos de Europa mountains, the Pyrenees and the Alps. I would jump in it tomorrow without hesitation and go anywhere!
Will have new 12 months MOT and full engine service.

A couple of years ago I spent alot of time stripping her back to treat the body rust. I has new steps welded in, bottom of doors, new inner and outer sills where needed. Whilst the wings, doors and all the trim was off I rollered 4 coats of rustoleum paint, had the underside steam cleaned and waxoyled the underside and any cavities with Bilt Hamber. Bilt Hamber is a leading waxoyl treatment that came out on top in a Hertfordshire University research paper.
I was never 100% with the satin rollered finish but ran out cash for a 2 pac respray. She’s just had a fresh respray and nilt hamber waxoyl underneath including cavities.

The van has 7 continental tyres that are in in good condition with lots of tread. Externally there are 4 roof bars.

The van is set up perfectly for adventures ideally for a couple or a small family.

The living room area as you enter has 2 captains chairs and a double seat behind. The double seat is on runners and can swivel. This means the seat can be forwards facing for travel. The table can be mounted on either of 2 flush mounted fitting in the floor for varied table set up. The front “sitting room” area is lined with wool curtains and black out material keeping it nice and cosy and keeping light out. There is a separate curtain to divide the rear of the van from the sitting area. The 2 front seitz windows have roller blinds and midge nets attached. Dotted around are plenty of 12v sockets, a led dome light and a small directional led light which double as a passenger reading light. There is a roll down projector screen and a mount on the roof to allow your own personal cinema! Also at the front there is a Sony Bluetooth stereo and 2 large speakers, this all runs of the leisure batteries.

Under the passenger seat is a lockable safe for bits and bobs. The floor throughout the van is reclaimed pitch pine ontop of 25mm cellotex.

In the front there is the eberspacher d4 airblown heater running off the main diesel tank, set off the bottom of the tank so you don’t get stranded. This has an outlet in the cabin and an outlet in the toilet. I set it up this way so you can put all the heat into the bathroom and it makes a great drying room for clothes and outdoor kit. This keeps the van toasty and has kept us warm down to -10c. I also made sure the heater control is next to the bed for those cold morning when you haven’t had it running all night!

There are 2 100ah varta leisure batteries charged via a sterling battery to battery charger from the engine. There is also 300watts of solar charging the batteries via a victron mppt charge controller. There is a 240v hook up and 240v 10 amp battery charger. I do have a small 300w inverter which we very rarely use for a laptop. Moving to the fully stocked kitchen there are solid wood countertops and a tile splash back. A fiamma roof light with 12v fan for cooking is above. There is a 3 ring smev gas burner, oven and grill. These are all installed to current gas regs with drop vents where nessesary and a gas locker in the rear garage. The bespoke copper taps are fed with a shurflo 12v pump and a fiamma accumulator. Along with hot and cold running water there is a whale marine hand tap as a back up and it’s also filtered for better tasting drinking water. Hot water is provided from the cascade carver 10l gas hot water tank. There is a top loading waeco compressor fridge which is on a roller drawer. There is also another seitz window with blind and midge nets. The kitchen has loads of storage either side.

The bathroom is a wet room consisting of bespoke copper taps and a trigger shower head for conserving water. I have a fitted a compost loo which is one of the best modifications I have made. The compost bucket is removed from outside the van and air is drawn out via a 12v fan.

The small single bed has its own lights and fitted memory foam mattress, also can be used with euro crates as a large storage area. The double at the rear has its own fitted foam mattress and lovely custom storage boxes at the feet for clothes.

The garage at the back of the van has loads of storage and easily takes 3/4 mountain bikes with the front wheel off. 150 litre inboard in the water tank to prevent freezing and makes the van usable year round. This is filled from the filler outside. Inside the back is a separate fuse box for the lights but also for any future electrics which may want to be added. The garage had netting and hanging space which is great if you have dirty Mountain bike gear and keeps its out of the main living area.

The back door has roof access ladder. The rear of the van also has a reversing camera and big led spot lights for night time use.

I have installed reinforced tarp mounting eyes on both sides of the van to allow a variety of setups depending on where you are and what the weather is doing.

I’m sure there lots I’ve missed out but any questions drop me a line.
