LDV Convoy LWB
Introducing Trundle, the 2001 LDV Convoy.
Why Trundle I hear you ask? Well, she has the legendary 2.5 non turbo “Banana” engine which is the best engine Ford ever made! She Trundles along at 50mph… with a staggering 45-50MPG! Yes she’ll go faster (not much!) but then so will the diesel!
This LDV Convoy has only 69,000 miles on the clock, absolutely no holes in the floor, no nasty surprises anywhere and just to verify this, the front cab mat is not fitted. You can dance on the Raptor coated floor to feel it’s 100% perfect. Almost unheard of for an LDV! The mat is included in the sale and will be re-fitted if you wish – and it’s bone dry!
After many years of standing, unused, in a warehouse, she was given a complete new lease of life, all professionally done by BeyondTheVan.
Late 2023, 54,000 Miles:
Six new tyres (Hankook Vantra LT). Wheels Raptor coated.
New front brake discs, calipers and brake pads.
New rear brake shoes and cylinders.
Cam belt (Gates) & Water Pump.
Auxiliary belt & PAS belt.
2 x Front shock absorbers.
2 x Rear shock absorbers.
Engine oil change.
Air filter change.
Fuel filter change.
2024:
Heavy duty Bosch starter battery.
New 50mm Sq. starter and earth cables.
New starter motor.
Engine oil & filter change.
Air filter change.
Chassis fully stripped back and prepared. Raptor primed and Raptor bedliner coated. In 2023, the MOT tester literally laughed and said they weren’t this good brand new! All work carried out by BeyondTheVan.
Starting with the cab. The dash, door trims, etc. are all Lilac which is the base colour theme for the conversion. Looks awesome! CD player.
The front seats are super comfortable swivel seats. The passenger seat swivels for extra seating whilst the driver’s seat although it is a swivel seat, has the kitchen behind it so acts as a fixed seat. Both seats fully adjustable.
The living space is very well heated by the small wood burner which has a 3” flue pipe and keeps you toasty in any weather. The burner is unpainted deliberately as cheap stove paint is known to release toxic chemicals when hot. The burner and flue can of course be painted if you so wish.
Fully insulated using 25-50mm Kingspan insulation. Moisture barrier also in place.
The big WOW factor of the living space is the amazing sweeping curved timber ceiling which actually curves in several directions. Let’s face it, you’d expect nothing less from BeyondTheVan !! How it’s actually been done may have to remain an mystery! The standing height inside the living space is 6ft.
The kitchen features a custom copper tap, copper jam pan sink and Reverse Osmosis water filter system which is all fed from the 70 Litre on-board water tank – filled externally. Please note the RO water filter is super expensive and will only be included in the sale if the asking price is met.
The kitchen worktop is a 400 year old beautiful piece of Fire Beech with rustic wooden cupboards beneath. Ample cupboard space! A roof vent is fitted above the kitchen. The cooker is a 2 burner hob fed from the on-board LPG bottle.
The bed is a fixed design but it’s not suitable for tall people! It is a double bed so taller folk could go diagonally but the length of be bed is 5ft 7”. A small Maxx Air extractor is fitted above the bed. The mattress is 100% Organic wool – no chemicals!! Custom made by Funky Futons.
Beneath the bed is a mass of storage. Currently partially used for a Whippet’s bed area and partly for storing clothes. Accessible from the living space OR from the back doors of the van.
Seating comprises of a small sofa, and the front swivel seating. Basic toileting facility under the sofa.
LED lighting throughout. The leisure battery is a 12V 110Ah Gel battery which is charged from the 150W Solar Panel on the roof via MPPT solar controller. An intelligent split charge system is also in place so it charges whilst driving.
On the back of the van is an aluminum storage box which is great for storing fire wood, etc.
The van was sprayed Nato Green by BeyondTheVan and it’s a very professional job including all door innards, etc. Obviously comes complete with a few hedge marks now!
This home would ideally suit a single person with perhaps a dog. But don’t be too tall! It’s 95% finished with a few finishing touches needed which is nice as you can personalize it for yourself. The kitchen unit has space for a drawer but it’s not been made as yet, however the ball bearing drawer runners and matching drawer front are included.
This off-grid home on wheels is fully EMF shielded, including all glass (and windscreen). This was carried out at great expense and expertise. For those who are unsure of what this means, to summarise: When inside the van you are protected from external radiation sources such as mobile phone masts including 5G. You’re also protected from external WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. sources. An estimated 80% reduction. Designed and built for an Electro-sensitive person. A damn good night sleep for everyone else!
This van has been a full time home to my friend since 2023 but now she really needs more space for her 1yr old little girl. It is a VERY reluctant sale in the sense of the van is fantastic, cheap to run, super reliable, etc. However the lack of space for a little one is going to become an issue.
The van will remain their home until the day it’s sold so the mileage will continue to go up daily. Any viewing is welcome at any time (Kidderminster, Worcestershire) but please acknowledge this is their little home and a day or two notice will be needed before it can be handed over to the new occupant!
Pretty sure the first to view will want to move in straight away!!
Current MOT is May 2025, however once a new home has been agreed, it will come with a full MOT.
The “T” reg plate is a private plate. Happy to leave it on, or we can put it back to the original plate X59 CUY.
