‘Hildy’ is the product of over 3 years of blood, sweat, and swearing! Finished in October 2023, she has been an absolute labour of love and we have sunk hundreds of hours into making her the most practical and beautiful campervan possible.
She is an off-grid camper, perfect for a weekend stealth camping or a longer road trip!
This beautiful camper conversion is not only immaculately finished, but is reliable and a pleasure to drive. As we have spent a long time using her whilst converting her, we were able to work out what we wanted and needed to ensure she would provide the most convenient and comfortable experience possible. My husband is a design engineer and his father is a carpenter/cabinet maker, so we were able to leverage lots of professional and skilled labour in the construction.
She has taken us on many adventures and has become the envy of both our tent and van dwelling friends. She offers a great place to relax, eat, work, sleep, or whatever else you can imagine doing. We will be very sad to see her go, but we have been relocated to the US permanently and so have to say goodbye.

Bed/dining area:
The van layout is open and spacious. It is great for a cozy evening by the sea or a big camping group to shelter from the rain.
The dining area is very versatile and is perfect for everything from remote working, to playing board games, to sharing a big meal, and can easily and quickly be converted into a large sofa or to a humongous bed (either way you will probably end up napping there a lot!).
There is a removable back rest for the bed/sofa which can be taken out if you ever need to load up the van with a tonne of stuff (if you have a big van your friends and family will assume they can use it for free whenever they move house).
Electrics:
As we wanted to be as off-grid and stealthy as possible, we opted for no mains hook-up.
What we do have is a 1000W inverter, with 2×2 gang sockets (one above the cab, and one next to the foot of the bed).
We also have 2×2 USB charging points in the same places.
We went overboard with the lighting so the van is very well lit, meaning it’s beautiful even in the dark (but the black out blinds completely stop this light, so your stealth mode is unaffected). We have split the lights so the front or back can be lit independently with two sets of two way switches (one set at the side door, and one set at the rear door).
We liked having light so much we also decided to set up LED lights in the rear storage area (so if one of you is setting off on a cycle ride before the sun is up, you don’t have to wake up the more sensible party still in bed).
The electrics box is stored centrally in the van for ease of access, and is mounted on a removable panel if you want to make changes to it.
Kitchen area:
The oven is the best thing in the van for us. It always works, and thanks to our underslung 30l LPG tank, in the years we’ve had it, we’ve probably made hundreds of hot meals and thousands of cups of tea, and we’ve only had to fill up the LPG tank twice (~£20-30 for a full tank). And there is nothing quite like being able to sling a pizza in the oven after a long day of hiking through the rain! There is plenty of cupboard space with two drawers, three large cabinets, and 3 overhead units. This is excluding all of the other storage in the dining/bed area and the side unit. There is a waste water tank under the sink and space for a bin as well – however you’ll need to remove the waste water tank to empty it every now and then. The main water tank has a drop out pipe for easy emptying, with several isolation valves to ensure you don’t get water everywhere if you need to disconnect something.
Extra details:
– My husband is a nerd and has also custom made many 3D printed components for the van (he assures me they will outlive all of us, but can provide replacements if you want them in a different colour/or if required).
– Generally the van is quite stealthy/subtle so you can mostly get away with parking anywhere (height restrictions permitting).
– We’ve used her for many short adventures (and a few long adventures) in the UK as well as climbing and cycling (LEJOG) trips. She can fit 2 bouldering mats in the right rear storage space under the bed.
– She has always run really well over the 4.5 yrs that we’ve had her, she has never failed an MOT and we are both happy and confident driving her.
– We have looked after her and have spared no expense in making sure she runs well and is safe and road worthy (new hand brakes, new brake disks etc), and have fixed or replaced anything that has come up during a service.
– It is important to note she is a 2013 van, which means she comes with the usual wear and tear. We are paranoid about rust and have (perhaps) gone OTT on the Hammerite, but we would recommend checking her for rust spots at least twice a year to make sure she lasts (we can provide the rust removal tools and paint if you’d like).
We love this van and would love her new owners to treat her with the care and respect she deserves.

Thank you for taking the time to look and we hope you enjoy Hildy as much as we have!
The bed was designed with my 6’5″ husband in mind, and when set up you will lie length ways along the van. The total dimension are 210cm long x 150cm wide, so loads of space! The foam mattress is very high-quality and the cushion covers are hand-made out of tough, durable fabric. We will provide a fitted sheet for the bed as well. The bed is also designed to allow for different configurations depending on your needs i.e. as a large couch, or as a big U-shaped seating area around which you can fit 4-5 people comfortably.
