Mercedes Vario 814D
I hope you like this lovely example of a Mercedes vario, I have reluctantly decided to sell this amazing van as my partner isn’t able to drive it without a C1 licence.
Hopefully it can find more adventures with a new owner…
The van has a recent MOT (April 2024) – 4.25 litre turbo diesel, magnificent engine (if you know, you know), 5 speed gearbox. Sits nice and comfortable at 55mph, with the power to pass all the HGVs you want.
Since purchase I have serviced everything!: New brake discs throughout and fully rekitted calipers, replaced steering box (2nd hand) and fitted new steering pump. 2 brand new front tyres. Gearbox has been off and checked – new master cylinder fitted.
Originally bought in 2018, I spent over a year on the body work and replaced both rear wheel arches and a large portion of the sills, the rear end was removed and replaced with a custom bumper rail and new LED lights, the underside was body shutz and resprayed.
Built to live in, there is a wealth of space inside, pull out bespoke dining table with seating either side and a long bench seat with space for more guests. All one side is fitted with drawers and cupboards, pull out bin and recycling and some grocery baskets too. A small Calor Oven with 2 hobs and and a grill is incorporated in the worktop along with a sink with cold water feed. There is space for a portable toilet too (not included in sale).
Under the seats is more storage space with 2 large drawers under the main bench seat. Near the entrance is a full size Waeco/Dometic CR110 compressor fridge which can run full time on the 530W solar on the roof – 2 x 105ah leisure batteries operating a 24 volt system. There are multiple USB points throughout the van and a Cyrix battery combiner to charge both the leisure and starter battery on solar – plenty of lighting throughout with multiple switching available.
There are 3 roof vents, a seitz opening window with fly screen and blind on the offside and a bonded window on the nearside. A curtain pulls across the front to screen off the cab and windscreen and then curtains surround the bed for a peaceful sleep.
The entrance is through a sliding passenger door with a flip seat for easier access, there is a door inside to access the garage area and then barn doors to the rear, great for views in the bed.
The main body is fully insulated with celotex and there is an eberspacher diesel night heater with controls adjacent the bed and the van is very comfortable even in winter.
In the “garage” area under the bed there is a 100 litre water tank contained internally to protect against frost, a shurflo trail king pump with an external gas shower for use via the rear doors. The night heater is positioned in a self contained box with outputs into the main living area, solar mppt controller and leisure batteries are on the offside along with a fully contained/vented gas bottle.
There is no gas certificate but everything has been installed to necessary regulations, fixed copper pipe and sealed gas storage, isolation taps in the rear.
There is a hook up point on the outside but no mains electricity nor inverter as been fitted as I never had the need – although there is capacity to fit if desired.
I have full photos of the entirety of the build, from initial bodywork and welding through to servicing and construction of the interior. I was very conscious to use good materials and lightweight components throughout in order to keep the gross vehicle weight down.
Double bed fixed at the rear, step up on the bench seats either side, sits over a garage area at the back. There is a long bench seat that could also double up as a bed although only two belted seats so not suitable for more than two.

However, Quirky have not approved a Gas Safe certificate, a Weighbridge certificate, or the vehicle's electrics. Buyers must check these themselves. For some tips on what to look out for read this. If the listing has no Gas Safe certificate, no unladen weight and no electrical sign-off please proceed with caution!
