1995 Nissan Vanette with Wheelhome Daneste Plus Four conversion (camper conversion of the year 1995!). She’s had two previous owners, one from new to 2010/11 and the second for a short period until we bought her in 2011 (the second owners immediately decided the van wasn’t big enough for their desires). We’ve looked after her well for the past 10 years and in 2016 she had a full rust overhaul and (not excessive) underseal by a mechanic. She needs bodywork rust keeping on top of (generally speaking, every couple of MOTs or so there’s some rust rebuilding to do, but it’s never been anything major, especially for something her age). She last passed her MOT in September 2020 after replacement/rebuilding of corroded parts.

Conversion Description

The conversion was completed when the vehicle was new by respected converters Wheelhome, who are still in business today. This conversion won camper conversion of the year in 1995. Here is the description Wheelhome give:

Daneste Plus Four

The “Daneste Plus Four” was a conversion we used to carry out on the Nissan Vanette from 1987 to 1995.

The conversion gave: Two single beds or double bed, four forward facing seats for travelling with belts and a four seater lounge when on site – for the size of van (13’1″ long x 6’4″ high) this was a very spacious and successful layout, even with the beds in place there was enough floor space remaining to use a Porta Potti!

Elevating roof (vertical lift), fridge, two burner hob and grill, cupboards, sink etc.

She has a lot of storage for the size of vehicle, with long pockets along both sides at roof height, a side nook that goes all the way to the base of the vehicle and can fit large items e.g. a small fishing rod, dinghy paddles, wine cellar (just a few examples of things we’ve kept in there over the years!). Both rear passenger seats also have ample storage underneath. You can use one to store all bedding and then the other is free for other uses. The 50 l water tank is underslung and there is a working gauge inside the vehicle to tell you how much water is left. This underslung tank means there is plenty of kitchen storage for all pots, pans, cutlery, utensils etc. There’s even room for a small Port Potti in one of the back cupboards.

Bonnie is very comfy to drive and has a beautiful engine sound. She also attracts some pleasant attention when out and about, with people frequently waving hello on country roads and usually she’s a good conversation starter at campsites.

Since she’s a little older, she would be particularly good for someone who would enjoy a bit of tinker every now and then or knows someone else who would. Here are her current quirks:

1) The fan on the front ventilation system stopped working a couple of years ago, which means it’s powers are a little on the subtle side. We have meant to fix this, but since it’s a 1995 ventilation system it was never exactly the most powerful and for a British summer the fan is not usually an essential. We just open the windows if it starts to get a little on the warmer side of things. It should be possible to fix this with the right knowledge and we have the vehicle manuals with full details of the electrics.

2) On our last trip in August, we started to notice a tap issue, which we believe can be fixed.

Beds Description

The van is currently configured to give two single adult beds or a double bed, four forward facing seats for travelling with belts and a four seater lounge when on site. The beds are created by pushing the front seats forwards and then moving the passenger seat cushions into the middle of the space. There are also two additional cushions, which give the four seats/remainder of the bed set up. Some of these conversions have been adapted to give a child bed in the roof, but this is not something we’ve ever considered.
