This Van has had 2 owners; the Welsh police force and us. We believe the van was originally used for police dogs as it had a roof fan installed when we purchased it and minimal wear and tear inside the rear of the van.

Conversion Description

The plan for the van was to create a space that we could sleep comfortably, work from if needed, as well as store all our adventure gear. Yet not compromising on driving comfort. We bought some initial basics; cool box, water tank, cooker and then built around them. We documented the majority of the build on Instagram, showing the cleaning, sound deadening, insulation process, vapour barrier, the flooring, the carpeting, the construction of the units. So please take a deeper look there to get a fuller understanding of the features in the camper. @workingfrom_____

We wanted a clean minimal scandi aesthetic. All the timber used was marine grade birch ply that was treated with a white-wash Woka Oil, which has recently been re-treated. We chose grey carpet on the walls for the soft touch, warmth and weight. And the floor also has 25mm of insulation, covered with ply as well as a grippy terrazzo vinyl.

For electrics, we opted for a Goal Zero Yeti 200x unit connected to a solar panel that is mounted to the roof racks. This has supplied us with more than enough power for phones, laptop, festoon lighting, etc… The roof racks can also accommodate an awning/tarp for additional shelter when parked up.
The camper includes; water tank, Goal Zero Yeti 200x and solar panel, mini USB heater, USB fan, 3x3m tarp and poles, window covers, waterproof seat covers, mattress, fire extinguisher, jack and safety equipment.

We initially opted to go for a Connect because of it’s size. We knew it was going to be our daily run around so we wanted something that we could park easily and didn’t guzzle fuel. We’re selling this camper to free up some money as we’re getting married in the summer. We will be very sad to see it go and we hope the new owners get just as much enjoyment from it as we have. It’s taken us all around Cornwall, North Wales, The west coast of Ireland, Northern Ireland and now to Bristol.

We generally use the van as a “weekender” but we’ve done long camping trips in it too. The van was also featured in a Hoxton Mini Press book, How to Leave London, as seen in photos.

Mechanical work

Although the van has 124,000 miles on the clock, in 2023 we replaced the engine and gearbox. This was due to our old timing belt slipping (which is never good). However, when replacing the engine we took the opportunity to replace the gearbox as well. This means the van has a new timing belt (and wet belt), which won’t need to be changed again for another 60,000 miles. We’ve had no issues with the new engine and have driven the van a lot, including using it to move house, from Belfast to Bristol; a long (and heavy!) journey. The van has since passed its MOT and is continuing to run as expected.
