Ford Transit Custom. SWB.
This 2015 Euro 5 Ford Transit Custom has been great for us over the last 3 years. We are a couple and have used it to go climbing and surfing on weekend trips with a couple of week long adventures thrown in. It’s so easy to drive and park that we use it as our main vehicle as well, to go to the shops, get to work, etc.
The base van is a 2 litre diesel, manual with 6 gears, Bluetooth sound system with voice activated control, cruise control, parking sensor, most other modern features (electric windows, etc) and the drivers arm rest is great for long journeys. Its been serviced at every MOT and has had no significant issues. I’m told these vans go for 200k miles or more.
This van would suit a single person, or a couple, who are looking for weekend adventures and the odd longer trip here and there. Its worth noting that as its Euro 5, so you have to pay to drive into some city centres (£9 for Bristol) so suits someone who is not planning to regularly drive it into a big city.
The conversion was done by a local professional in Bristol (escape vans, find them on Instagram) and includes: spinning front bench seat, pull out table, single hob and sink, 2 x kitchen storage draws, gas and water cupboard, small bin, shoe storage, clothes storage, perma-bed with large under bed storage area, ceiling surf board storage system, reading lights, 6 ceiling lights on 3 switches, roof vent with a fan, solar panel, leisure battery with accessible display, 2 USB charging ports and an f40 low profile awning. We’ll also throw in an external thermal window blind and an insect screen (vital on summer nights).
We love the set up. You will see the bed has a corner cut off. This is to maximise the “living” area and storage space. I’m 6 foot and my wife is 5,9 and we find it very comfy. It’s an unusual set up but we highly recommend it. The clothes storage is angled so that it’s comfy to lean against when relaxing in the van. This along side the spinning front bench seats makes it comfy for two people to relax inside of an evening. There is loads of storage, we fit 2 boulder pads under the bed plus other climbing kit or wetsuits etc.
This van would suit a single person, or a couple, who are looking for weekend adventures and the odd longer trip here and there. We’ve just had a baby so are planning to get something we can convert to having 3 beds. We are hoping to sell fairly quickly so get in touch if you are interested or have any questions.
Double “perma-bed”.
