We are reluctantly selling our much-loved off grid campervan Frank (the tank). He has been lovingly converted into an off-grid, high-end beast with a well thought out layout making great use of all available space with top quality equipment fitted throughout. He has taken us on some unbelievable trips around the UK and Europe from the NC500 to the French Alps but now it’s time to let someone else carry on the adventures.

Off Grid Focus

The van is designed to be completely off grid. The Renogy 200Ah lithium battery bank is charged by a huge 400-watt solar array which is converted through a Victron 50amp MPPT solar charger and through the Victron 30amp DC to DC charger which charges the battery’s when the engine is running. We have been all over Europe in the van and have never had trouble with battery, the speed that the solar charges the battery’s is phenomenal and can be fully monitored through the Victron chargers’ Bluetooth capability and the Renogy monitoring screen which displays charge percentage, amps in/out and voltage.

Allowing the van to go off grid for even longer periods of time is the large capacity 105l freshwater tank. This is located in the garage area inside the van to prevent any issues in cold weather with the 35l grey water tank underslung to save space. Both the fresh and grey water tanks have level gauges which are displayed on the control panel in the living area of the van. The Truma Ultrastore Water Heater holds a further 10 litres of water which can be heated to either 50 or 70 degrees which is prefect for washing dishes and using the vans crowning jewel, the custom-made rainfall shower! There is nothing finer than coming back from a full day exploring to a beautiful warm shower in the comfort of your own van!

Fuelling the water heater and the high-end Thetford Triplex 3 Burner Hob and Oven/Grill is the whopping 30l Underslung LPG tank. This is a HUGE capacity! If the van was bought to be lived in, this capacity would last you for months on end. It is filled up by a side mounted fitting allowing you to easily fill up at petrol stations with the LPG facility and for very cheap.

The heating for the van is provided from the fuel efficient 5Kw diesel heater which is situated in the garage of the van and piped into the living area. Uniquely and to make life easier, the fuel line feeding the heater is tapped into the van’s diesel tank rather than a separate tank specifically for the heater. This means that if the van has diesel in it then there will be diesel for the heater! The fuel lines and pump for the heater are ran under the van to save space and reduce any noise made by the fuel pump.

The van has ample storage, perfect for stocking on supplies to prevent you needing to call into the shops all the time to keep stocking up. There is huge bulkhead storage, a large under cooker drawer, crockery and classes cupboard, condiments and accessories cupboard, cutlery drawer, large under sink countertop storage with 3 standing pull out drawers. To aid further with storage, the van is fitted with a MASSIVE 115 litre Isotherm Freeline Elegance 12v Compressor fridge and freezer. It is so rare to see such a large compressor fridge fitted into vans, normally you only get very small 60-80l sizes at the most. This has a whopping 83l fridge and 32l freezer capacity which is like a single-story household fridge. The capacity of this fridge means that you can stock up on so much more fresh food (and beers) and keep it fresh when exploring off grid. Being a 12v compressor fridge it is extremely economical, pulling very little draw from the battery bank.

All of these considerations have been made to give you more autonomy, so you can get into and stay in more remote and amazing areas for longer without having to rely on campsites.

Kitchen

The kitchen is laid out in a triangular formation with 3 prep stations. The forward-facing counter incorporates the chrome tap and sink which faces an access hatch which can be opened to access the cab and give views out of the windscreen when stationary. Underneath there is a large storage space which currently houses cleaning materials, a cleverly positioned inside door mounted bin and a 3 story pull our drawer set. A cutlery drawer and shoe rack are also integrated within this custom-built cabinet. Above is the very large bulkhead storage which extends the full width of the van. Inside the bulkhead is a 3m long lead with two USB charger ports which allows you to stretch it outside and charge devices when enjoying the outdoors. To the left of the sliding door is the Thetford 3 Burner oven and grill with a closing lid, creating a further prep station when the hobs are not in use. The final prep station is above the 115l fridge freezer, benefitting from an overhead cabinet with downlight to assist. A Maxxair Maxxfan Delux sits in the middle of the roof space capable of drawing air in or expelling air on a 10-speed setting, making it perfect when cooking or in the shower.

Shower

The shower is SUPERB! It is a wall mounted chrome rainfall shower with additional detachable shower head. It has a built-in shower ledge for storing soaps and shampoos when stationary and a retractable drying line to hang up wet clothes to dry. It has a beautiful, tiled floor, sitting in a high sided basin which is mounted on a layer of concrete board and then Wedi board (a waterproof boarding used for wet rooms). It is tiled with flexible tile adhesive and grout and is trimmed with aluminium. There is a Blue Diamond Cassette Toilet which can be stored in the shower; however, we store it in the boot with the intention to only use it only in emergencies.

Living Area

There are two, beautifully upholstered sofas which pull out and form a second bed. It uses the cushions for the seating area to perfectly fit to create the mattress. There is a pull-out footstool that come out from under the bed which is also used as storage. It opens on a hinge where it houses the fold down table. This is made in two parts, the legs and the tabletop which very quickly and easily fasten together. The beauty of having a fold down table is that it can be put away to save space and can be taken outside when having BBQ’s etc. There is a light switch for the 6 warm led lights for the living/kitchen area with a separate 4 on a different circuit for the bed area. On the face of the bedframe are 3 USB ports and 1 USB C, 4 240v plug outlets and the diesel heater vent. The is also a small access hatch which opens into the garage, allowing access to smaller things and preventing the need to go through the back doors.

Sleeping Area

The van comes with a full-sized double memory foam/pocket spring hybrid mattress! The mattress is orientated width ways which gives unbelievable views through the panoramic tinted windows. The windows at the top and bottom of the mattress have a latched opening mechanism allowing air into the van. Above the bed is a Maxxair Maxxfan Dome which can be used in conjunction with the fan or open windows to create a nice flow of cool air on those hot days. The are custom made cushions created to extend the width of the mattress towards the rear doors. These allow you to lay with you back on the rear doors where there is an overhead projector mount with included mini projector and screen to watch all your favourite programmes from in bed! A USBC and USB are also present on the rear door side of the mattress. There is a pull cord fitted to open the rear doors from bed where the doors can be placed in the normal 90-degree open position or be opened further to fold back on themselves allowing an uninterrupted view out of the rear doors.

Garage

The space occupies the whole of the under-bed area. It has a lighting circuit to illuminate underneath which is great when getting things in the dark. It houses the freshwater tank, water heater, water pump and accumulator and diesel heater.
