Detailed Information
Vehicle Description

The base vehicle is a Mercedes-Benz, SPRINTER 413 CDI, 2002, 2151 (cc) Trekabus camper van conversion. MOT until 8/9/2024. Diesel fuelled giving approximately 25mpg at motorway speeds (will happily cruise at 130kmph on European motorways for hours – but we rarely do more than 2 hours without a break/change of driver). It has a six gear semi automatic “Sprintshift” gearbox. The air suspension system gives a lovely smooth ride. The (very heavy) rear wheelchair lift has been removed, leaving plenty of space underneath for the addition of grey and fresh water tanks – we just never got round to it. When we acquired the vehicle it came with countless parts receipts, MOT certificates, service work sheets etc. Which we still have and believe to be the full service history. Work we have completed since acquiring the vehicle includes: replacing the steering rack, replacing one injector and an injector seal. We also needed a new clutch which burnt out following an unwise exploration of a very very steep mountain track in Montenegro. The vehicle has done 3 return trips across Europe to Montenegro and has crossed from Essex to Ceredigion and back at least 3 times without any problems.

Conversion Description

This is a truly quirky van. All conversion work was done by a previous owner. He was a practicing budhist and cabinet maker, so it’s been attractively done in wood and has somewhat “hippy” decor. The original Trekabus seats have been removed except two seats at the front, plus the drivers seat. The biggest advantage is the ability to stand upright in the van. The original motorised front door passenger access has been removed and replaced with a solid non-opening half glazed panel. The stairwell has been boxed off to provide storage for 1 leisure battery and 1x inverter, spare wheel, tools. All side windows have venetian blinds and curtains so very light and airy during the day but very private at night. The standard UK double bed is hinged at floor level and folds up against the nearside of the bus with plenty of shelf space above. The space above the drivers cab is also shelved with extra storage. Access is through the rear double doors with a kitchen area on the drivers side as you enter. There is a small sink, drainer and two burner camping stove plus grill with more storage cupboards underneath. The grill can be easily moved outside. Water is pumped from a 20l container under the sink and drains into a 20l grey water container. The gas stove can be moved outside and placed on a stand during hot weather. There is a hanging space and cupboard for clothes, plus a shelf with a microwave. The door to this cupboard acts as a privacy screen for the pull out portable chemical toilet. Also contained in this space is another leisure battery (needs replacing) and another inverter. There are two fold down tables that can seat 2 people. When parked there is an ingenious sofa that can be lifted into place. There is also a flame effect electric fan heater on the drivers side. The van comes fully equipped with pots, pans, plates, cups, cutlery, toaster, 2x240v/12v 40l coolboxes, electric cooling fan, foldaway outdoor chairs and table. This really is a comfortable van and the ability to connect to electric hook ups means it is easy to travel and live in. We had hoped to embark on a complete off-grid refit which would greatly increase the value of the van but we’ve chosen to explore the southern hemisphere instead.
