Ford Frisky Autosleeper
Jez is an incredibly well-maintained 33-year-old Ford Frisky autosleeper (Transit SWB). She is a rare find with only 250 made in the early 90s. She spent most of her life taking families on summer holidays and not much else before I got her. Don’t let her age put you off, she’s still got a lot of driving left in her.
Upon purchasing her in January 2023 I got to work removing the original furniture which was outdated and began modernising her. After 3 months of work, she was fully rebuilt for solo adventures and has had so many of them! We (me and my dogs) have spent many long weekends in the Peak District camping, trips to festivals, weeks in Wales, and most recently a month driving around Scotland, all without issue! She’s an all-season camper and I have done much winter camping in her thanks to the diesel heater keeping me warm (as she is small it takes about 10 mins to warm the whole place up!).
She is perfectly designed for off-grid living any time of year with 2 solar panels on the roof charging my 1800W Bluetti power bank which powers everything inside (included at an additional cost of 1k, in case you want to buy yourself something more powerful). It’s a straightforward setup (checked by an electrician) so that most things can be fixed on the road. She also has EHU capabilities should you be on a campsite and want to plug in.
Here’s a list of included extras:
Custom-made interior insulation blinds
Single memory foam mattress from IKEA (firm)
Front seat covers to hide the original beige seats underneath + gel cushions for long drives
Orange slide-on awning
EHU cables + bag
The leftover paint I used for the cupboards etc. so you can refresh them when needed, or for repainting if you make any amendments to the layout.
Original Haynes Manual for the ’92 Transit.
Included at additional cost as these are removable and can be easily updated by new owner):
DC chest fridge (+£100)
Portable induction single cooker hob (+£50)
Bluetti 1800W power bank (+£1,000)
Other useful information:
She was undersealed in 2021, so she’ll need another coating in 2026 to keep away the rust
She has plenty of garage space for festivals and longer trips away
Original “mushroom” pop-top, easy to put up/down on your own
Only 61K miles on the clock, so she still has about 300K left in her
She has a “banana engine” (which is the best you could ask for)
Fully-serviced in Oct 2023 and 2024 (the years I have had her) but I do not have her history before this
She’ll be MOT/tax-exempt in 7 years!
Portaloo cupboard
Electric hook-up port on the side of the van
4 new tyres as of May 2024 (+ an older spare underneath)
Manual 5-gear drive & Diesel 2.5ltr
New fuel filter
New clutch arm + cable
New front wing panels
2 new engine batteries both still under warranty
New locks on front and back doors
New ignition
New handbrake cable
Normally does about 170-190 miles per full tank (depends on how many hills you make her go up) and costs between £40-50 to fill her up
Her height is 2.2m due to the solar & her pop-top
I have kept on top of her rust myself (she is an old transit after all) and she did have a bit of cosmetic welding done to some holes that popped up
I have invoices for the work not carried out by me should you want to see them and I have made videos of all the work I did myself on my YouTube (search @wegailygadabout)
Jez is a much-loved campervan, and I am only selling her because my family has grown and she is no longer big enough for us all, which has broken my heart. I have put my heart and soul into building her and I would like her to find a nice new home with someone who will look after her and take her off on more solo adventures! I realise that her decor might not be to everyone’s taste, but her cupboard doors can be easily removed should you wish to sand them down and paint them a less bold colour.
I think I have covered everything but should you have any questions please do reach out to me and I will do my best to answer them! I work from home so I am available all day weekdays and weekends if you want to have a look and until she is sold I will be using her as my day-to-day vehicle.
