Mercedes 608D
First registered in 1985.
Berties had his annual service and new MOT in May 2023. In 2 years he will be MOT exempt and ULEZ exempt (subject to application).
5 Gears.
Bertie is watertight but there are a couple of rust spots on the bodywork and the seals on the door window will need replacing.
We’ve discovered some great people/companies that have helped us keep Bertie on the road, and will be happy to pass this info on, along with a folder with loads of past service history.
Bertie has spent most of the last couple of years between home and a woodland, making the 18 mile trip back and forth several times. We have also driven Bertie to be serviced about 20 miles away. He drives sure and steady and quite slowly uphill, as you can expect for an old vehicle.
There is a motorcycle carrier / bike rack which fits on the back.
The sink has drainage pipe fitted to drain to a bucket. A tap is supplied but this has not been plumbed in.
There is a 2 burner gas hob but the installation is not complete. We have always cooked outside on an open fire.
The log burning stove heats the bus up nicely and can boil a kettle.
There is a full sized double bed with a standard spring mattress.
There is a child sized single bed which pulls out from a mini sofa.
There is a removable table.
You can stand up in Bertie.
The engine is very robust, apparently called the ‘million mile’ engine. So it is just over 1/4 of the way through its life 🙂
We are very fond of Bertie and would like to keep him. Unfortunately, the local council won’t allow us to leave him on our woodland and our street has parking restrictions, so we are looking for someone to be the next custodian of this really lovely bus.
You can drive Bertie with a C1 license or we can deliver to you.
The conversion from a bus had the seats removed and laminate flooring.
Curtains and insulation all round with a painted wooden ceiling.
Roof vents have been added and a chimney.
2 Solar panels professionally fitted.
Bed and kitchen area has been hand crafted out of wood.
A wood burner and heat proof surround has been fitted.
2 Adults can sleep in the double bed.
1 child / adult can sleep in the pull out bed.
An additional person could sleep on the floor.

However, Quirky have not approved a Gas Safe certificate, a Weighbridge certificate, or the vehicle's electrics. Buyers must check these themselves. For some tips on what to look out for read this. If the listing has no Gas Safe certificate, no unladen weight and no electrical sign-off please proceed with caution!
