+ Two Owners from new -we bought from the Marshall truck and van Mercedes dealership in Andover in 2020.
+ ULEZ compliant, cruise control, bluetooth, usb charger, 6 speed gearbox.
+ The 114 engine has plenty of power.
+ The driving position in a Vito is lower to the ground than the Transporter and Transit Custom – as a result the drive is more comfortable/car-like.
+ Two keys.
+ We fitted 17 inch black steel wheels – fit a slightly wider tyre than the standard ones. slightly better traction, slightly nicer look.

+ All internal timber framework completely removable to enable use as a non-camper vehicle

EXTERIOR

+ Low profile aluminium glass roof hatch (designed for boats- very watertight) – handy for stealth camping as not easily identified as a camper
INTERIOR – warm wood tones and soft texture from the curtains create a peaceful space. Sunlight filtering through the curtains is always a treat.

+ Lining in Birch plywood and cabinetry in Poplar plywood and Douglas Fir
+ L-shaped seating area with slats that pull across to form bed frame
+ IKEA foam mattress divided into modular cushions that form either seating with back rests or bed.
+ Cushions professionally upholstered in hard-wearing cornflower blue cord
+ Linen bulk head curtain – fixed with magnetic wooden rail for easy removal/install
+ Cotton side door curtains – easily removable from rails for washing/storage
+ Pivoting cooking station – this pulls out on runners and pivots for flexibility in windy conditions. Fits a standard double ring gas burner
STORAGE – this has been carefully thought out to be ergonomic and plentiful. It always astounds us just how much clobber can fit!
+ Extra long pull out drawer – 160cm – we use this for our Yeti cooler and stacking boxes of kitchen equipment and food
+ Cavity behind long drawer accessed from sliding door.
+ Three doors beneath the seating allow internal access to long drawer and cavity if needed
+ Small wall mounted shelving unit and handy open compartments alongside seating
+ Larger fitted cabinet full of compartments with drop down table
+ Unit with good size “cutlery” drawer at back of van
+ Long storage space behind seating perfect for awning poles and fishing rods
+ Lines of bungee cord on the back doors useful for anything you might want to grab easily

As mentioned above, this conversion is designed so that all components are easily removable for maximum versatility.
The timber framework was built and installed by ourselves in the Summer of 2023 and has been improved and refined over the past year. One of us is a full time joiner – though it is a self build the cabinetry has been built to a high standard.
No electrics/leisure battery?! We decided to install one if we felt it necessary. But after one month away living in the van, using a Yeti cooler, solar charger and Alpkit lanterns (get one!) we found we didn’t need any extra power than what the van already provides.
Bed slats pull across the width of the van to create a bed frame.
Cushions slot together to form the bed – these are made from a 10cm deep IKEA foam mattress
The full bed dimension is 130cm wide x 200cm long
