Mercedes 814
For sale our beautiful hand built wooden bodied truck home.
We sourced the best base vehicle we could find and this came in the form of a mercedes 814. It has done about 100000 from new and its previous owner had owned it for the last 20 years.
It has been maintained impeccably and the previous owner used to transport formula ford race cars to track meets. It has not had the usual commercial vehicle life.
It has had a full service and will be sold with 12 months mot. The mot is class 4 so no hgv mot required.
We sourced the best base vehicle we could find and began the conversion by removing the box that was on the back and fully renovating the chassis. We then had built an aluminium box section frame and clad the outside with cedar wood tongue and groove. This made for a strong, durable though very light weight structure. This part of the build was completed by the very capable folk at Housebox .. do check out their website. We then fully lined the inside with 50mm hemp sheets then clad with more cedar wood which kept with our ethos of non toxic materials . All the wood inside was oiled with Osmo. We built various cupboards and work surfaces out of oak. The floor was 15mm solid oak which looks stunning and will wear very well. The ceiling is pine tongue and groove and the two rooms are divided with larch lengths.
We built this for our growing family, mum dad and 3 home schooled kidz and are very reluctantly selling as our plans have now changed
There is a full size Stoves lpg oven which is as new and unused and a 4 ring lpg hob .
There is a beautiful belfast sink with a funky black mixer tap.
There is a Chilli Penguin convector, multi fuel/wood burning stove that was installed by a hetas engineer.
There is 700w of J A solar running into approx 600 amp hrs of Trojan batteries. There is a Victron 3kva inverter/charger and a Tracer 60amp MPPT solar controller. All well set up for complete off-grid living.
This beautiful truck home sleeps 5 as it is configured at the moment. We had it set up as 1 double in the Luton and 3 full size single beds. This set up worked well for our family though could be re-configured if needed. We did not fit a toilet or shower as this was never an issue for us and we wanted to use the space as we built it
We installed 2 boat hatches in the luton which make it very pleasant laying in bed looking at the stars and having the fresh air whilst in bed.
There is a newish fire retardant chemical free double mattress in the luton .
There are 2 large storage boxes underneath each side one of which made a very handy log store.
All in all a very lovely off grid home.
This would make an amazing family Tiny Home on the Move . It has recently had a full service and will be sold with 12 months MOT. The mot is class 4 so no hgv mot required
It would also make a lovely wooden shack style home just parked up on some land or even a good air bnb investment.
It took about 18 months to build and cost us in excess of £50 000,
it would cost so much more to build at today’s soaring cost of materials . We are asking
£32 000.
We have lived in it for about 6 months. So all looking very fresh.
We out grew our previous Mercedes bus that we had lived in for a little over 8 years and built this to accommodate our rapidly growing family. Due to personal family stuff our plans have changed somewhat and we are now going along a different path.
We have full photographic documented history of the build right from where we removed the old box to present.
What more to say hey .. do come and have a look if you are interested and thanks for taking time to read our ad
