Volkswagen LT35 MBW 2.5L TDI
Our home on wheels is for sale, and she’s ready to go when you are!
She’s a high roof, medium wheel base van with a 2.5 litre TDI engine. There’s plenty of go in her, but as she’s an older lady it takes her a little longer to get up steeper hills.
There’s a ladder attached to the rear door, which leads to the rhino roof rack and a marine-grade plywood platform, perfect for getting the best views wherever you are.
The sliding door on the passenger side features a window, with a fly screen and blackout blind.
Alarm system and GPS tracker for peace of mind.
JVC stereo with AUX connection.
Stealthy appearance; we’ve never had “the knock” or been moved on, and we’ve done our fair share of stealth camping.
Passed her last MOT with no advisories and the next one isn’t due until April 2023.
As she’s our home, we wanted to get her fully checked over and kitted out, so since purchasing her we’ve had the following service work completed:
Timing belt kit and pump changed,
Coolant flush,
5 new glow plugs and starter motor,
Alternator belt,
4 new tyres,
New windscreen wipers,
Passenger wing mirror,
Upgraded headlight bulbs.
Insulation:
The van is wrapped in a double layer of aluminum foil bubble wrap.
There is a layer of ‘Earth Wool’ insulation which is a sustainable light-weight alternative to sheep’s wool and gives brilliant thermal performance.
The final insulation is the 9mm pine cladding.
A handmade blackout curtain (with thick insulant lining) which divides the cab from the living space, for privacy and warmth.
She stays cool in the heat and warm in the cold.
Kitchen:
A Three-Way Fridge: Dometic Combicool Absorption Coolbox- 12v/230v/ Gas Cartridge – 40 litres – Chrome/ Charcoal.
2 Burner hob and grill which uses CampingGaz.
20 litre waste waste/grey water tank.
10 litre Fresh water tank.
Stainless steel sink (there isn’t a tap, but we’ve never needed or wanted one even when living full-time in the van!)
Carbon Monoxide alarm and fire extinguisher.
Electrics:
100 Watt Solar Panel.
Split Charge Relay.
MPPT charge controller.
110 Amp Hour AGM Battery.
Pure Sine 240v inverter with a USB plug.
2 x 240v socket outlets.
6 x 12v ceiling mounted warm-white LED lights.
Jackery Solar Generator 500 (518Wh portable lithium battery with three USB ports, AC outlet, and 12V car output, and a 100 watt portable solar panel).
A note on the electrics setup: the Jackery battery and solar panel have been an absolute lifesaver for us during our full-time van dwelling. Having charged phones, laptops, iPads, and a Nintendo Switch, and not gone below 50% since we moved in! We really only use the fixed solar panel and AGM battery for powering the ceiling-mounted LED lights.
Materials:
The units are constructed using marine-grade plywood or 9mm tongue-in-groove pine with a hard-wearing lacquer finish, giving them exceptional toughness and longevity.
Beautiful, handmade wood interior, including rustic and vintage shelves and door handles.
High-quality commercial grade vinyl flooring.
Storage:
This van holds a monster amount of stuff! You are never short on space for everything you might need your adventures.
Underneath the centre of the bed is a long storage space, perfect for a dog bed/den, fridge, or toilet, with lots of room to spare.
Over 7m worth of 40cm high shelving underneath the left and right side of the bedframe (storage boxes included).
Kitchen storage-
Large cupboard with food shelf and utensil box.
4 wall mounted shelves of various depths. The deepest holds our coffee maker and all our mugs.
3 large drawers with anti-slip grip.
A large, wooden chopping board that sits flush over the sink to provide an extra work top.
Added extras:
2 alarm and GPS tracker security system,
Jackery Solar Generator 500 (518Wh portable lithium battery with three USB ports, AC outlet, and 12V car output, and a 100 watt portable solar panel),
Thetford porta potti 165,
Britstops membership until February 2023,
Detachable chair hammock,
New carmats,
USB vacuum cleaner,
Storage boxes.
Final note:
This van is a great blank canvas, with the scope to add your own personal touches. We’ve successfully lived in her full-time throughout all weathers and temperatures, up and down the country, and she’s never done us wrong. As a 17 year old van a few dinks, dents and minor rust spots are to be expected; they are all cosmetic and do not affect the structure or safety of the van. There are also a couple of chips on the windscreen that have been treated at Halfords. As said previously, she’s perfect for wild camping and street camping as a white panel van, and because she’s an older lady, people take no notice of her!
We hope you fall in love with her the way we have, and please feel free to contact us with any questions or queries you may have
Fixed kingsize bed frame. We use a kingsize mattress topper, as we prefer sleeping on a slightly firmer surface, but there’s definitely space for a proper mattress should you want one. We have two storage baskets to the side of the mattress, which are perfect for books, glasses, or headphones, etc.
