Detailed Information
Vehicle Description

This is Papaji, a 1990 VW LT35, 2400cc Diesel, Luton with tons of character and plenty of life left in him. He has been our loving, off-grid home for the last 4 years so it’s with heavy hearts that we have decided to give him up as we get ready to relocate to Cyprus and can’t take him with us.

Prior to being converted by us, Papaji served as a removals van for a family-run business in the Midlands. (He was in dry storage for 12 years) We always loved older vehicles, especially the VW LT35s (aka “bricks”) so when he went on the market, we were quick to snatch him up. Although he’s an old boy, his mileage is still pretty low for his age, currently at 160,256. He is in perfect working order and drives just as a van his age should! More on the mechanics below.

We’ve owned and have had converted smaller vans before (a bit of a passion of ours) and wanted to move into something bigger (a luton) and convert it to a high standard, fully off-grid, tiny home-on-wheels…and that’s what we did.

Papaji has just flown through his MOT on the 25th of July so he’s ready for his next road trip!

Viewings: We’re arranging viewings between the 6th-11th of August so get in touch if you want to book a test drive.

Asking price £17,500 ono.
We are based in Castle Cary, Somerset.

Conversion Description

The conversion:

-The van has had a full paint makeover with top quality military-grade vehicle paint
-50mm cellotex insulation all around
-Raised floor, providing loads of underfloor storage throughout the van
-Accessible from either the rear or through 2 trapdoors
-Standing height is 186cm / 6ft 2”
-Entrance is through the rear: Fully cladded entrance with barn door. Have kept the
original roller shutter for extra security and keeping out extreme weather

The layout:
-Full double bed (mattress included) above the cab
-L-shaped sofa with custom-made cushions and underseat storage
-Steps leading up to the bed that also serve as the electrics cupboard
-Multi-functional desk: We prioritised having a decent working desk due to the nature of our work. Half the desk opens up to reveal a fully sealed, wet room with drainage. We were originally going to turn this into a full shower but decided it was more functional as a wash-room so never finished the installation. A copper shower head and pump are already installed. All that’s needed is a boiler and a water tank to turn into a fully working shower
-Curtain divider between kitchen/work area and living/bedroom area (giving the feel of 2 rooms)
-Full floor to ceiling wardrobe with plenty of storage hooks and a shoe rack
-Mini Cyclops woodburner from Glastonbury Burners with twin wall flue
-Fully kitted out kitchen, Dometic CRE65 12v compressor fridge (57ltr), Triplex LPG oven, grill, three-burner hob, beautiful hand-painted Moroccan ceramic sink, Whale foot pump, tons of storage for spices, dry store, utensils and cookware, Maxxair Maxx Fan Deluxe roof vent/fan (you can tell we love to cook!)
-Smoke alarm / CO2 detector
-Small access hatch between the cab and living space

Windows:
-2 x porthole bedroom windows (fixed)
-Large marine access skylight above bed (you can actually fit through it, standing on the bed!)
-2 x hinge windows in the living area
-Second skylight / extractor fan (with remote control)
-Kitchen porthole (so can look out whilst washing up)
-Gas cupboard and waste and clean water access from the back

Electrics: We wanted to be fully off-grid and self sufficient so we opted for a high-spec solar set up. This includes:
-3 x 175W Renogy mono solar panels
-3 x 130Ah AGM batteries
-Victron MPPT controller
-Victron DC/DC charger (to charge whilst driving)
-Renogy 2000W pure sine wave inverter
-Victron battery monitor display / Victron battery heat sensor / Victron bluetooth smart dongle (this works with the -Victron app to monitor the solar system)
-Multiple roof spotlights split between kitchen and living room
-Adjustable desk lamp
-Bedside light / Wardrobe light / Electrics cupboard light
-Multiple USB/12v charging points throughout
-MiFi System: 4G Smart Antenna and HUAWAI 4G Compact Ultra Router

The van itself: Have put loads of money into making Papaji a reliable vehicle. Here’s a list of the work that we’ve had done:
-New tires all around
-New exhaust
-New radiator
-2 new front springs
-Added leafs on rear suspension
-New braking system
-New cambelt and fuel pump belt including water pump
-Professionally refurbished propshaft
-Fresh MOT (25th of July)
