Renault Kangoo Maxi 2011
The time has come to pass on my beloved Renault Kangoo Maxi van, Val the Van, to a new owner.
Val is the perfect micro camper / weekender van. Being the longer wheel base, maxi version of the Kangoo panel van, she fits a 4 by 6ft double bed in the back and so can comfortably sleep two people. The bed can also be folded up into a bench position to seat friends, with the fitted mattress, which will be sold with the van, folding over the seat, much like a futon.
When the bed is extended, there is loads of storage space underneath. Plus, on either side of the bed there are slim storage boxes, topped with wooden lids which double up as sideboards / shelves. The back doors also have storage pockets for lighter items, and there is a deep shelf above the windscreen in the cab, which holds plenty of books and maps of the open road. She also has a metal roof rack installed, so a roof box could easily be added for even more storage (however, I personally have never found I needed one). Its also proven very useful for transporting surfboards on the roof, but even my 8ft longboard fits comfortably inside the van. So, in summary, she’s can pack a lot in for a small van!
The conversion itself was completed by a professional, and so has been done to a very high standard, which you will hopefully be able to see in the photos, and definitely will appreciate in person. High quality materials were used throughout, and fitted meticulously, so that no space was wasted in the van. The conversion was kept simple, using battery powered lights that can be easily unscrewed when the batteries need replacing. However, the van does have an electrical system and a power inverter which could be hooked up to provide power for charging phones and laptops etc, I just never got around to doing this or found the need for it. The roof has plenty of space for a solar panel too, behind the skylight that was installed – this allows a lovely breeze into the van in summer and allows you to see the stars from your bed! And there is plenty of space to add a slide out, outdoor kitchen, as seen in other micro campers. So there is plenty of opportunity to continue upgrading Val to really make her your own.
Mechanically, the van is in great condition for its age – 2011 – and mileage – 100,400 miles. A few issues have come up in the time that I have owned her, but that is to be expected. Her full service history will be provided. Given the popularity of the kangoo van, parts are widely available and inexpensive, so repairs are always easy to organise and affordable. These vans are great runners and can go on for years. Being a diesel, Val is also well powered and very economical to run. She drives like a car really, so is equally handy for the weekly shop as for weekend surf trips. I have had her regularly serviced and she will have a new MOT with any advisories seen to before selling, so that she can be driven off in the best possible condition.
I’ve had some of the best times in my life with Val and will be truly sad to see her go, but I have loved going on adventures with her so much that I have decided to embark on my next adventure of full time van life, so I will be moving on to a bigger van.
If you think you could be the one to take Val on her next adventures, please get in contact and we can arrange a viewing.
Thanks, Amber 🙂
