Mercedes Sprinter LWB
Before we converted Sandy, she was a 5 tonne 17 seater mini van but we had seats removed and reclassed as 3.5 tonne to allow everyone to drive it. Automatic transmission, regularly serviced and MOT’d June 2022. Very good condition both inside and out. The van was previously council owned before we bought it from BaseVan, meaning it was very well maintained.
Introducing Sandy the Sprinter – the off grid, long wheel base sprinter with all the home comforts! Sandy provides a living experience which is pretty much glamping on wheels. Sandy is a two berth van with plenty of living space, a super king size fixed bed (yes, a proper sized bed in a camper!), 2 hot water showers, full kitchen and endless storage space.
For a 2007 van, Sandy has remarkably low mileage and is a very well maintained vehicle. We recently had the brake pads replaced in addition to the brake lines. Prior to conversion, Sandy was a council owned mini bus, so was well maintained and regularly serviced. We purchased Sandy from BaseVan in Derby in July 2021, and have spent the past year and a half converting her from a base van into a home on wheels. Prior to our purchase, the seats were removed and the van was reweighed, meaning that it can be driven by anyone who has a normal car driving licence.
We drove Sandy from the UK to Italy earlier this year, so she’s definitely an adventure vehicle which allows you to travel in ultimate comfort whilst being able to park up off grid.

The quality and space that this van offers is immense, so much so that it would be lived in full time if desired. The solar panels provide enough power to remain completely off grid and not have to hook up. However, if you did wish to hook up at a camp site, it is also possible to do so. The living features provide everything you need to travel comfortably without having to rely on campsites. As mentioned before, we drove from the UK to Italy in Sandy and had an amazing time due to the spacious nature and fantastic facilities of the van.

The bed in Sandy is a super king size – we build this van with the idea of wanting to feel comfortable and not have to compromise on bed space. For this reason, the bed is 2 metres in length and 1.96 meters wide. It easily fits two fully grown adults, with extra space for a dog or child! The mattress is 25 cm thick memory foam, so incredibly comfortable. The bed slats themselves are from IKEA, so very sturdy and high quality.
