Conversion Description

THE CONVERSION

The van was converted by myself in August of 2019 so I know every inch of every part. Any questions then please just ask. I used it for adventures in Snowdonia and Scotland through the winter of 2019/20 and only stopped due to world events in the spring of 2020. Since then I’ve been away for a few week long trips but it’s not getting the use it deserves and life is taking me in a different direction now.

* Comprehensive Dodo Dead Mat Hex® Sound deadening on Walls and Roof
* Insulation – 50mm Celotex Board on Walls. 25mm Celotex Board on Floor and Ceiling. Infill between metal work form eco-friendly recycled plastic insulation and expanding foam.
* Insulation thickness on floor and ceiling was chosen to ensure I could stand up within the van without issue (I’m 6’1”)
* Cladding – Spruce tongue and Grove fro walls and ceiling. (Behind cabinets and in garage area, 12mm ply.)

* MPK Vision Star Pro 400mm Skylight (could do with re-sealing as some water has started to creep through when there’s a torrential storm. Having been meaning to do it myself but haven’t managed to find a few dry days in a row to make it happen. Not a big job, the old sealant just needs cutting away, wiping down and a new beed applied.)
* Professionally installed privacy window in side door.
* Made to measure insulated blackout curtains mounted on track system.
* Double passenger seat is mounted on a swivel bracket which enables to face into the van creating additional seating.
* Track mounted insulated blackout curtain separates cab from the van and tucks behind the drivers seat when not in use.
* Toilet – Thetford 345 portable cassette toilet. This is hidden under the bench seat by the door and is access by a hinged top section. Completely sealed unit so never had any issues with spillage or smells. Separates into two parts when needing to be emptied and cleaned.
* Flooring is wood effect vinyl. Incredibly hard wearing, water proof so no worries of liquid sinking through the wood and insulation below. There is one small section that has become torn where the floor meets the bed. Please see photos for reference.

ELECTRICS

* 2 x 140Ah Leisure Batteries
* 320 Watt Mono Panel
* Photonic Universe 40A MPPT Solar charger controller inc remote LCD display
* Kriëger 2000 Watt inventor (this is all connected but i’ve never used it.)
* Split Charge relay – cable has been run in between van battery & leisure battery and control mounted but never connected. I have always relied on the solar and never run out of power. Would be an easy thing to connect once cable ends have been made up)
* USB and 12v socket mounted on kitchen control panel and at rear door. Rear sockets are great for phone charging at night or 12v showers/inflation pumps needed outside.
* 12v LED lighting split into 2 sections with separate controller. Front 4 around kitchen/toilet – Rear 4 over bed area. Each controlled by touch sensitive dimmer.
* LED comfort lighting currently running around the edge of the ceiling and plug into a USB socket.

GAS SYSTEM

* Cooker – Voyger 4500. Double burner, oven and separate grill
* Heather – Propex HS2000
* Gas – 6Kg Gaslow cylinder. This is permanently mounted under the bed with a filling point inside the side door. This means you do not need to lug gas bottles in and out of the van each time you need to fill up. Simply pull into a petrol station that supplies LPG and fill up as easily as filling up your vehicle with Diesel. Tank is housed in a metal gas box with drop vent installed through the floor. Tank has contents gauge mounted to the top to check current usage. The gas runs both the heather and cooker and is connected via a 3 way manifold under the sink for easily isolation.

KITCHEN

* Sink with 12v submersible pump tap.
* 3 x 27.5 Ltr Jerrycans which fit under the sink. 2 for fresh water, 1 for waste. The tap is a little powerful and would benefit from a rubber nose to ensure water shoots into the sink more directly. I just got used to this but is an easy fix.
* Fridge – Top of the range Dometic CRX50. Top of the range and super energy efficient. Comes with removable section which can convert the top shelf into a freezer. Runs on the 12v electrics system.
* Pull out draw undercook containing 2 x rubbish bins.

SLEEPING

* Full size double bed running from front to back. At 6’1” I wanted to ensure I could sleep on a full size mattress without having to be diagonal or cramped.
* Mattress – Ikea Hövåk (which Best Buy for most comfortable!)

STORAGE

When researching vans I was concerned at how little storage some vans seemed to have so set about ensuring my van would be different. There is so much storage space it’s amazing:
* Over cab shelf
* 4 x over kitchen cupboards
* Hanging rail above kitchen work surface for utensils
* 3 x small shelves on kitchen wall for smaller/lighter objects.
* Large cupboard under sink (currently used for water)
* Medium cupboard under fridge (large enough for pots/pans/kettle)
* Open space under the toilet perfect for shoes.
* Secret cupboard behind toilet unit under bench seat
* Access from main van under bed. 2 wooden crates on runners at the bottom and space for two more boxes on the top shelf)
* 9 x shelf spaces being blue wall. Each has a lip to ensure contents doesn’t fall out when driving but being open means access is super easy.
* Under bed Garage. This is where the van turns into a tardies. Accessed from the rear doors the space is currently split into two. The left side has a pull out shelf capable of storing two bikes. The right is flat and open and have enough space for 2 inflatable paddles boards, 4 x 50lt boxes, 2x flight cases of camera gear and tools. My (boxed) TV, camping chair, boots, bike helmets and all sorts of other bits. Is a flexible space and the central patrician/bike shelf could easily be removed if you wanted one big space.

Viewings are welcome or I can deliver almost anywhere in the UK as long as full payment has been made in advance. Payment via bank transfer preferred.
