Conversion Description

Gutted to be selling this van but I just haven’t been getting out in it enough recently. It deserves to be out exploring more. Apologies for the lack of photos but I made a YouTube video* (which has got a surprising amount of views) to give a proper tour of all the features of the van. Because of the style of the design the features are quite hidden so hard to demonstrate through photos.

*See video below pictures at the bottom of the listing

As an engineer I was pretty meticulous about the quality of the build, so did a lot of behind the scenes work as well as finishing work for the visible features. Some of these features are:

– Butyl Sound Deadening throughout walls and ceiling
– 50mm of Sheep’s Wool insulation throughout walls and ceiling
– 9mm Sheep’s Wool on all thermal bridges of walls and ceiling
– Sealed exterior plastic bodywork to stop water ingress
– 200mm of cork chips insulation in floor
– Cork flooring finish
– Custom made wood for walls (enables fully modular design/storage set up)
– Large over cab shelf (accessed from the rear of van)
– Wheel arch storage boxes
– Bike rack on the inside of rear door
– 4 Heavy duty ceiling attachment points
– Floor ventilation tube

I bought the van from the original owner – a guy that was transporting ‘La Poste’ mail from the port to the sorting office every day; a lot of motorway miles, hence why it’s got high mileage for a 2013 van. It was in great condition as it had been fully looked after by MB, and I’ve kept it serviced and maintained to a high level. The work done includes:

– Full fluids replacement on purchase: Engine oil, gearbox oil, diff oil, coolant fluid, power steering fluid
– Serviced minimum of every 12 months with Mercedes Benz Spec oil, new oil filters, air filters, fuel filters
– New battery (with 5 year warranty)
– New Front discs for brakes (both sides)
– New rear shock
– New front wishbones (both sides)
– New steerer arms (both sides)

I’ve personally found the flexible nature of the van works really well, as I can adapt the van from trip to trip depending on what I need to pack. I also like having the space to roll out a yoga mat inside. I’ve never found the lack of windows to be an issue, although you could easily add one if you want (the insulation and panels on the door are easily removable).

Similarly you could easily add a ceiling fan if you decide you’re not as interested in keeping the van stealth, but I’ve found the floor ventilation is very effective. I also liked having the rear as a clean area so the cork flooring worked ok, but you may want to be put a vinyl flooring over the top if you want to be able to get the rear a bit dirtier.

All together the van build cost over £7k to make (excluding the van and labour cost) due to the high quality and custom nature of it. Here is a list of the major items included with the van:

– 2x Jackery 1000 Portable Powerstation’s (£1000 each)
– Dometic CFX3 45 Fridge (£900)
– Vevor 5kW Portable Diesel Heater (£100 +£50 upgrades)
– Renogy 100w Flexible Solar Panel (£150)
– Campinggaz Xcelerate 400s Stove (£120)
– Calor 3.9kg Propane Gas Tank
– Wooden fold out coffee table
– 2x 20L Water Containers
– Dimmable LED lightbulb
– 2 stage Water Filtration System
– Dimmable LED Pendant Light
– Clutch Claw Pedal Locking Device
– Thule Levelling Ramps
– Milenco Grip Mats

Hopefully someone else who appreciates the spacious and modular nature of the build will be able to take on the van and go travelling in it. Happy to answer any questions that you may have.
