Volkswagen Caddy
2007 2.0 SDI which has covered only 88,000 miles, MOTโd until early June 2024, it is a higher spec than most vans of its age; it has electric windows & air con. It has part service history & a lot of work done over the past few years including but not limited to new clutch & a gear box refurb (at around 84,000), new brakes, new large capacity battery, new rubber perishables around the suspension, engine clean out & 3 new tires. The van starts first time every time & runs like a dream for its age. It gets excellent mileage too, around 500 โ 600 miles on a full tank. There are age related marks, worst of which is on the sliding door (seen in pics). There is no rust inside or out.
One small issue with the air con is sometimes the compressor doesnโt come on, which I think could be a lose connection, just not had time to investigate. When it comes on its ice cold! There is a small tare on the driver seat, but we have covered with seat covers.
unlike a lot of self built campers for sale, we have taken our time, researched & used quality materials & experts where possible. It is lined with a 10mm insulation, sound deadening & vapour barrier, all cavities are stuffed with lambโs wool (10sqm went into the van!), lined with new ply & carpeted with 4way stretch carpet; this all makes the van warm on the cooler nights & cool in the heat of the day. We have had a roof light professionally fitted & had added wind deflectors; this gives great ventilation, minimal to no condensation in the van at night. The bed / seating area is professionally CNCโd in ply by Van Furniture & the seat cushions professionally made by a local company using 2 types of foam. I can honestly say I have a great night sleep in the van! The bed pulls out & with pillows against the rear barn doors, can easily sleep 2 people.
The van is off grid, but we have installed a simple solution to have electrics if you visit a site with an electric hookup. There is plenty of room for an electric cool box behind the seats & plenty of storage underneath the bed seating. There is a small unit too, which has space for a gas burner inside & will fit on top. We have also installed a solution for opening the barn door from the inside.
There is still loads we wanted to do / can do to the Van, including installing a window in the sliding door which would cover the mark in the pics, & install fixed curtains / blinds in the barn door windows. There will be insulated blinds for the front windows included with the van.
A lot of care has been taken getting this van from a workhorse to a camper, it has been, cleaned, tcut & polished regularly & looks great for its age.
There is an Instagram account for the works done on the van @dot_the_caddy
We are open to sensible offers & people serious about the van as we are not in a rush to sell.
The camper will be available towards the end of September after our last trip in it.
