Volkswagen T5
The van is in good condition and hasn’t been used all that much since converting it (which is our main reason for selling). There is some wear and tear (mainly some dents and scratches on the outside of the van that were present when I bought it) . There are some remaining final touches required for the camper conversion itself which I’ll list at the bottom, however, there is nothing stopping the van from being enjoyed for camping.
1.9 TDI (Turbo Diesel).
Manual – 5-speed.
Long history of services and MOTs, current MOT valid until 6th September 2025.
Last MOT passed with no advisories, and had a full service late the previous year (25/08/2023) including the installation of a new turbo, cam belt, water pump among other smaller parts filters etc. Turbo was replaced after spotting a small leak from the old one, other parts simply due to mileage recommendation.
Two previous owners, one being the owner of a garage which I still take the van to, so has been very well kept after.
Features:
• Pet and smoke free
• Swivel Passenger Seat
• Wood panels, carpet and vinyl flooring
• Curtains made from fire-retardant blackout fabric with patterned fabric stitched on top
• Sink with space below for 2 x 10L jerry cans or larger
• Tap pulls out and has a spray head if you want to wash shoes/wetsuits outside the van by the sliding door
• Lots of insulation!! 2 layers of sticky foil backed foam on all metal exposed to the outside, recycled plastic insulation in cavities, foil vapour barriers added on top of cavities, gold underfloor insulation (5mm thick) below wood & floor vinyl, areas not panelled with wood have been carpeted. Van stays surprisingly warm at night.
• Wind deflectors on front windows
• Roof Rack System, brackets were custom-made in Germany and frame uses 30x30mm aluminium t-slot extrusion (Bosch), ideal if wanting to extend and add accessories like an awning, lights, cargo box, etc.
Electrics:
Note that the system provides 300w of solar power from rigid panels which provides more than enough power to run the fridge, lights, charge a laptop from the inverter, charge 2 phones and use the fan, even in the winter.
Solar Panels
• 2x 150W 12v Xplorer German Cell Solar Panels
MPPT Solar Charge Controller – Renogy Rover Li 30 Amp MPPT
• With Bluetooth and Battery Temperature Sensor
• 10A In-Line Fuse between solar panels
• 30A breaker between battery
Battery – Yuasa Leisure Battery 12V
• 100Ah
Inverter – BESTEK 500W Power Inverter (i.e. the 24V plug socket)
• “400W rated, 500W max, 1000W Peak”, I just use it to charge my MacBook Pro (96 Watts) however I’m sure it could be used for other things too
• Has a 40A breaker between the inverter and battery although not needed as inverter has it’s own replaceable fuse
Fuse Box
• 30A breaker added between fuse box and battery
• Individual fuses added for the components below
Roof Fan – Fiamma Turbo Vent 40 Crystal
• Current Draw: 0.3–3A
Water Pump – Seaflo 12V
• Max Draw: 4.0A
• Wired to switch under counter although can be left on and operated via the tap
Lights – x8 hooked up to dimmer switch
• Individual Draw: 0.23A (2W each), total: 1.84A
USB, 12v socket and switch Combo
• USB sockets: 2x 2.1A = 4.2A
• Cigarette Socket: 15A
• Switch hooked up to other 12v socket used by fridge
Fridge – CHANGEMOORE 30L Car Fridge Freezer
• Draws 4.2Amps and only runs periodically
• Powered via 12V socket (fused), and fridge includes it’s own internal fuse (located on rear of fridge)
• Fridge is quiet and works great, let me know if you don’t want it
Spare wire
• Not wired to anything, from fuse box routed out by the other water pump’s wires, could be used for LED lights, usb socket or something else by the counter top.
Defects & Remaining Work:
• Some dents and scratches to the outside body work
• Driver’s chair has some superficial wear on the seat
• Window curtains are a bit finicky when putting them away
• Sink needs a new plastic pipe and jerrycans (old one had a minor leak but haven’t replaced or used the sink since)
• Sliding door isn’t carpeted or panelled and the 2 side windows could do with some tidying up in terms of carpeting or an inner seal around the edges
• Water pump can be loud when running water and tap needs to be kept on cold (hot water pipe not currently linked to anything)
Pull out bed 187cm x 124cm
