Custom Bike Holder:
This allows you to fit pretty much any enduro/ trail bike in the back with the bed folded up or down. Modular design, with a dummy hub which the bike bolts through. Bed can be folded up or down while bike is mounted to rack. Could be locked using the thule pincer mechanism to prevent theft.
Custom Bed:
This is a folding bed which can be a bed, seating area, or folded away completely. I fabricated this from mild steel box section, all painted with smooth hammerite. Can sleep 2 as a couple or 1 very comfortably. The diesel heater sits underneath the bed next to the wall. The upholstery was done professionally, with a 3″ memory foam mattress.
Personally, I haven’t found a better 1/2 person camper in a SWB van. I have built it all myself to maximise usable space and function. Happy to stand corrected!
Folding “Murphy” style bed:
I couldn’t find a bed on the market which would fit my requirements so I thought I would build one myself. As a keen engineer and designer I wanted to make a bed which could fold up to offer space for hauling 3/4 bikes with the wheels on, carrying motorbikes or even sofas. I also wanted the diesel heater to be stowed away under the bed base. The bed can be up or down with the bike stored in the bike rack at the back.
Details:
Fabricated from 25mm box section.
Size: 105cm wide, and 185cm long – perfect for a couple and spacious enough for spending nights away with a mate.
Mattress: Professionally upholstered, using 3″ memory lite foam. The upholstery and mattress cost £400 alone and is not showing any signs of wear. Fully machine washable at 30.
Fold down seating: This can comfortably sit 2 people whilst cooking and chilling. There is no cushions on the seats, but this isn’t to say you couldn’t add some!
Both the seat and the bed are held upright using a strap with a custom welded bracket to the rib of the van roof.
